That’s Just Gross

The sweaty gym towel to the face is no doubt unpleasant, but I’m referring to Wynn’s really creepy patriarchal attitude towards his sister’s personal autonomy. As Dale alluded to in the comments, there is definitely something off about Wynn’s behavior here. Couple that with the insularity from their homeschooling, the sudden integration into the Milford high milieu, Wendy’s frenetic dancing, (as was also pointed out by vaganova) and who knows what other plot backstory, and we do indeed have the makings of possibly delightful and insane season. Or, it could all peter out, Wendy will form a platonic relationship with a non-threatening guy (Tipp in a surprise callback?) and Wynn will help power the Mudlarks to third place in the Valley Conference as we all learn a valuable life lesson through the lens of small town high school athletics.

Poll result: Well, as you can see, Black & White trounced Color 32 votes to 24 (as of 11:20 a.m. Central Time). This may well be a bigger turnout and a more decisive victory than in the recent local runoff election to fill the seat for District One in the county community college board.

P.S., what the heck is going on in panel two? I have to admit that I kinda wish we could still see the little pink hearts in color…

You don’t suppose they’ve got a Flowers in the Attic thing going on, do you?

  2. Or like the Brady Bunch movie. With the red light on the sister he’s professing deep love to his left hand.

  3. Hmmmm… ‘personal autonomy’…. yeah, I’d like to have that one back. Oh well, I edit these things about fifty times after I post them, but I guess I’ll have to live with that phrase this time. It kinda makes me think I coulda made it in academia.

Regardless, I stand behind my comments about how creepy it is that this guy (and I am not sure if he’s supposed to be younger or older than Wendy but either way it only matters to the extent of his culpability) feels like he is in charge of her social life.

  4. I predicted, somewhere, that Wendy was starting at Milford as a junior, and Wynn was a senior. Gil or Kaz had marked him as one of several “improved/improving”. That suggests he was there last year, but not good enough to play. And the guys seem to know him.
