Paving the way for the gritty new spinoff: “Hobart’s Way”

Jeff  has finally nailed 50% of the  plot of Gil Thorp over the past decade. The other 50% being that nothing interesting happens either.

To drive this home, we return to “Tales ripped from the headlines nobody cares about!” where Hobart (aka Friend of Scott Walker and enemy of adorable puppies) wants to slap the shit out of some teachers. I’d say he was a bad guy for doing so, but he’s probably met some of the teachers at Milford High, so his anger is entirely justified.

But will Evil Sonya be able to control him with her hypnotic nipple chair? Only time will tell…

5/10/11

Umm, nope. He’s still yelling. Do you know thow many panel have been devoted to Hobart’s school budget hollering and hoo-hah? 12! (Yeah if you’s asked me before I counted I would have guessed 30.) That’s closing in on a week’s worth of comics… Remember that when this “story” suddendly stops one day in mid August with no actual satisfactory ending.

Meanwhile, Mimi has called in “sick”, leaving the team under the watchful eye of the Glory Llama. Wonder if she’ll let that chick with the six-foot wrap around arm pitch, or just stick her at first base?

Mimi’s been seriously absentee this spring: she’s shown up in six panels, two of them lying around in bed, and none since just before Hobart showed up three weeks ago. So I see this going one of two ways. Either she’s learned to go off on month-long benders like her husband, or they’re slowly phasing her out of the strip like they did the Thorp kids. We need more panels of budget subcommittee hearings  after all, and someone’s gotta pay the price. Well, besides the readers.

  1. Would that be “My Little Margie” large and in charge?

  2. Gil has 3 or maybe more assistants. Is Mimi the only female gym teacher in the school?

  5. 5/9 P2: the head of Hobart is being played by God from Zippy.

Why does Mimi get sick every time the lawn guy is gonna be at the house?

  6. Jeff’s comment would imply that something important is going to happen. Most likely football will start just before it does.
Sonya is getting the Hobart treatment. Meanwhile Mimi Is home sick getting Hobarted by the pool guy.

  8. Hobart looks like the kind of guy who got wailed on in high-school dodgeball games, so I foresee big cuts in the athletic department. Which will be especially disappointing to Fat Albert (#6), who joined the softball team after finishing his work on the Budget Task Force.

  9. If Hobart cuts the SPINDIG budget, watch out.

I always thought Molly Kinsella was large and in charge. Of cardboard bikinis.

  10. “Save the drama.” Now here’s a cause that Milford teens can get behind.

  11. What we need is some school consolidations. They’ve all been around for too long with declining enrollments and one men’s coach and one women’s coach for all sports. Goshen and Tilden could become Goshet. Go Milford-Madison!

  12. Just so long as Milford doesn’t merge with Valley Tech. Boo, Valley Tech!

  13. Maybe with all these consolidations and re-alignments, Marty Moon could head up the new Valley Conference Sports Network.

  14. Sponsored by SPINDIG.

  15. We’d better focus on more funny names for consolidated schools, because this Hobart asshole is only going to get more tiresome as time goes on. I like John S’s suggestion that perhaps Hobart is acting out his resentments from gym class dodgeball (god, I loved dodgeball) but have a prediction of my own. I’m thinking this will run parallel to the story of perhaps ten years ago, when Dr Pearl’s predecessor imploded on the job. Turned out he was motivated by the fact Gil was always better than him at “State.”

  17. Mimi might be making some side money! Gil apparently pays no attention to her and the kids are now off at boarding school or some such place.

  18. The kids are taking a “dirt nap” beneath the bleachers.
