Ask and Ye Shall Receive

December 13, 2013

I almost want to cry because it seems like the end of an era to see Coach Kaz having transformed his glowing red mane into this new so-greasy-it’s-blue shaggy pompadour*. You’ll have to forgive me, I’m too overcome with emotion – even after having asked for this only yesterday – to comment further. In lieu of words, please join me in pouring out a glass of aviation grade lemonade (or a mug of whiskey with a splash of coffee if that’s your preferred beverage) as we memorialize this dramatic turn.

[pours out a glass of Everclear with a lemon wedge in it]

Say, while we’re being all contemplative, can I get a little feedback? I feel like I’m hogging the blog and I know that there are others who would like to join in the fun. I’ve been checking the chat room daily before posting to see if anyone has volunteered to take a crack at it, but it doesn’t look like that’s being used anymore. Please let me know. As it happens, I currently have plenty of time to invest/waste on this endeavor right now, but recognize others have work/family/social lives, etc. that may keep them from posting in the morning as I’ve been doing. So, again, please call out days you’d like to post and I will more than happily step aside.

* I thought for sure that I would be able to find a Redmeat character to do a side-by-side ‘separated at birth’ profile of new look Kaz with but none of them quite matched Kaz.

  1. I had been doing Fridays, but thats ok for today; I’ll do another day next week.

  2. Oh sorry, Rob. Just let me know. I’ll shoot you an e-mail so you can let me know and I’ll stay out of your way.

  3. I’ve only done one, need to do more. I should be able to pick up the pace in January, and I’ll chat with you all to work out details.

On topic: I think we’ve discussed this before but I hate the colorized versions of GT. Kaz’s (Kaz’?) hair is mos def not supposed to be as dark as Gil’s. The color monkeys’ making the football Mudlarks all-red when the opponents are clearly meant to be in dark uniforms really irks me though. IRL the refs would almost never, especially at the high school level, let both teams take the field in dark jerseys. Of course these days when uniforms have turned into costumes and teams like Oregon trot out new ones every week, I’m not sure that wouldn’t be allowed.

  4. Thanks, Teenchy. I’ll be able to do this pretty easily for the next week or so but right before Christmas my schedule is going to go to hell and stay that way for the foreseeable future so I will certainly not be able to do this on anything like a regular basis then.

As for the black and white versus color, the site I grab these from runs them in color so that’s what I’ve used. Generally, I think the artwork looks much better in black and white and would be happy to start doing these in that format. I’ll post a poll and see if the readership has a strong opinion.

As to your last point, I do recall an Illinois – Wisconsin game a few years ago (i.e., in the era of nearly universal color TV and pretty widespread HD) that was at home for the Illini and they decided to wear orange uniforms while Wisconsin was in their away, red unis. I had no problem with being able to tell who was who even if it looked a bit awkward, but after the game apparently a lot of people complained.

  5. I signed up to help out, but haven’t done beans (as evidenced by the fact that I’m just today reading the 13th’s post). I think you’re doing great, and I’m just glad someone is willing to take up the mantle and roll with it. Everybody who’s posted since the hiatus has made me very happy, so keep it up!

  6. […] Rob – except when I get excited about something like Kaz having blue hair and forget… still sorry about stepping on your toes there, […]
