Wow. After yesterday’s actual action, you’d think they’d slow things back down again so we can all catch our breath. And, unfortunately, you’d be right.

Conrad’s not the brightest bulb is he? I suppose that there’s a fair bit of subtext that could be going on in panel one to explain why he’s so lost in thought ‘figuring out if he can see Amy tonight’, but I prefer to think that it is just a real stumper for him as he tries to work through the abstract mental machinations of whether his plans for a few hours from now and Amy’s plans for a few hours from now will allow them to meet.

Anyway, while we contemplate that, we get some classic Gil Thorp visual tropes with an unnecessary up the nose p.o.v., exaggerated dimples and truncated words on walls. (Sure, it probably says ‘towel return’ but it’s more fun to imagine that it really says something insane such as ‘Stowaway Preternaturally’.)

Finally, we finish off with the mother of all freak hands fist bumps. The disparity in hand size almost makes it look like Hamani’s hand is being engulfed by Luckey’s with their knuckles interleaving. And, on that nightmarish note, we’ll see you again tomorrow for more slow moving plot action!

  1. Oh, Fat PITCHES. He’s saying “fat pitches”. I thought that… uh, no, that is totally what I initially read.

  2. Truncated words are one of the few bits of realism. BUT, we didn’t need signs to tell where to get and return towels.
The return was a barrel of some kind. Nobody was going to work in a cage taking back dirty towels one at a time.

  3. OK. Lucky is distracted. Don’t sit behind first base. (“Milford spectator Soames Seltzer is attended to by paramedics (not visible in photo) after being beaned by an errant infield throw. Seltzer remains in guarded condition.”)

  4. I have a hunch that P3 is recycled art from last fall, with Hamani and Lucky a repurposed Tip Nunn and John Pascoe. Unfortunately I’m in a place where my connection is crawling and to confirm via archives could take hours. Can anyone else?

  5. Love those up the noise shots. See if we can count the noise hairs.
