Helter skelter holiday hijinx

Gil returns to his summer job as golf coach, and Kaz mentors new coaches on the players peculiarities. Why doesnt Kaz just coach them himself? And if we knew Gil could play a lick, we’d be ok with his teaching golf, but seriously, how barren does the talent have to be in Milford for the high school football/basketball/baseball coach to also teach golf at the public course in the summer? Dont they have at least 1 certified golf pro at every course? Every course I’ve ever played has one. Doesnt anyone play golf before July around there? By the time they’ve got their swing in order its time for Gil to say goodbye. You have to start lessons in April for anything to take effect by August. And in P3 we have the 2 mystery scouts/coaches spelling Tilden wrong. Only this strip would waste a sentence on a spelling error. Tomorrow they’re playing a round-robin when they’ve only had what, 1 practice, with new coaches?
And who’s mentoring the new golf coaches that are obviously needed? Thats what Gil should be doing. Comment away guys, we’ve got a lot of issues here.

  1. Answering one of my questions myself, Kaz isnt allowed to coach them – forgot to review the previous 2 days of strips.

  2. Panel 1 tells us why Gil is teaching the novices instead of leaving the job to some PGA teaching pro. With a glove on each hand, he is clearly ambidextrous, and does not need to stand on his head to teach lefties. And in panel 3, we have the latest entry for the “pantheon of mysterious objects.” What in the world is that under the lamp in the hotel room? Looks a little like an overturned ironing board, perhaps used to barricade the door.

When the two guys in panel 3 first appeared at the breakfast buffet, I thought they were a father with a forcibly relocated quarterback son. Now I’m thinking they may be unscrupulous college scouts. Sorry for the redundancy.

  3. Its part of the lamp – its so in the foreground it cant be on the table, so its just a fancy base. Some floor lamps have a circular middle and narrow bottom. Thats the middle.

  4. Apparently in Milford, playing in a 7-7 touch football league is a fast track to the NFL. No draft. No combine. No nothin’. You win that round robin and they’re throwing seven figure contracts in your direction so fast it takes a lot of agility to keep from getting a nasty paper cut.

  5. Robmize says the Mysterious Object is part of the lamp and he is usually right. I was wondering if it could be part of a poorly rendered armchair, but then there is that strange widget attached to the base of the lamp…

But we still have the matter of the identity of these hosers setting up in big bad Central City. Do we have a lean in the direction of their being some sort of exploitative football scouts, or better yet football prep camp scouts?

  6. The gloves are disposables.
    1) Gil doesn’t want to leave his DNA on a child.
    2) Children are dirty.

  7. […] A Central City Hotel is, apparently, the Central City Hilt. […]
