All Aboard the Night Bus

After getting all my comments stuck in moderation day before yesterday, there’ll be no innuendo from me today, nope, no way no how. I’m gonna just let Jarrod’s comment about needing six inches slide. Instead I’ll just get into the spirit of postgame analysis.

P1: “Salute the read,” said no one ever. It doesn’t have to be an either/or, Gil. By the way, what happened to Kaz’s earring? He must’ve bet them against Don Drebus that Milford would win.

P2: We’re on a bus at night, right?  Where’s the light coming from to give Jarrod’s seatmate the tonsured look? Not from his tablet, I’m guessing. Probably from the roof of the bus, labeled “MY ROOF.” For that matter why isn’t it dark outside the bus windows? Maybe Shaw was such a long trip that they’re still on their way home at sunrise.

P3: Unspoken by Chinbeard Boy: “… and we wouldn’t have needed them if you’d been able to dig us out of the hole.” Gotta appreciate the acknowledgment, even in defeat, of the new QB’s talent. But if True’s seeing things and throwing things at a level far above his teammates, shouldn’t he put the training wheels back on to get on the same page with them? The picks and incompletions resulting from his missed judgement aren’t gonna get him into Miami of Ohio.

Anyway, the musical inspiration for today’s post title.

  1. As the team begins to take sides in the looming QB battle, descending into the kind of chaos certain to trigger midseason losing streaks, the blissfully unaware Gil and Kaz comfort themselves with the contents of their hip flasks and model the latest stylings from the Milford Catalog O’ Varsity Stuff. Nice matching jackets, guys. I assume they came out of that oversized suitcase (panel 1, lower right) you keep close by at all times.

  3. “Steamed at True’ is another string of words I would have doubted had ever been put together before, but according to google, some militant biker apparently set those words down on the internets seven years ago to the day. So, there ya go: circles within circles. Perhaps Rubin is subliminally transmitting radical anti-auto manifestos to the world in one of the more obscure possible fashions.

  4. One of those days when I am glad not to be moderating this site. Three consecutive panels of stating the obvious. But I guess the breakneck pace of the past week demands some coasting. I see a repeat or two in the near future– it’s still early October.

  5. Looks like Jarrod’s hitting the sauce too, judging from that flask in P2. From that look on his face, he’s still getting used to it.

  6. Didn’t know that Friar Tuck was on the team. Jaroo is stirring the pot. Should be an interesting week in practice as the QB competition heats up.
