Mama’s Boy?

October 21, 2014

Lot of confusing stuff today, but in the interests of (my) time, let’s just focus in on the panel three horror show.

Freak hand? – Check.
Bizarre facial hair? – Check.
Exploding eyeball? – that’s a big Check!
Unbuttoned shirt over black t-shirt? – Check.
Weird details? (The same artist who couldn’t put a G on Gil’s mug manages to cram in ‘izz’ on the pizza box? – Check.
Utter non sequitur induced confusion? – Checkmate! I have no clue what the hell is going on here.

  1. Magically moving can – changes hands from P1 to P2.
You’re right, timbuys. This exposition clears things up like black spray paint on a windshield.

  2. “mama calling” is an old expression/excuse for a kid to get out of a sticky situation.
Watch a lot of Our Gang movies or others of that type and vintage.

  3. Haha – Milford kids and their “your momma” insults! What a bunch of wiseacres!

I foresee Twue offering to help Jarrod in his quest to become a WR, and a friendship developing. Could we see a game-winning flea flicker in the final game against the hated Valley Tech (that tried to bribe Twue to play there)?

  4. Facial Hair Fred there in panel 3… Weakest insult of all time or second weakest insult of all time?

  5. I couldn’t wait for today’s post. The mom jokes, they practically write themselves! Must resist else I end up back in moderation again.

“I thought your mom was back home selling the house, if you know what I mean.” “That pizza box ain’t the only place I’ve crammed in ‘izz,’ if you know I mean.”

Back out of the gutter: I like milfordian’s tack but I suspect the road may be a bit bumpy getting there. True’s been above board in his dealings with Jarrod to date but after his curt intro to “The Quarterback” keeping his distance might be justifiable. I suspect Gil will have The Mouthy Troys move True in the right direction as well. Now kiss!

  6. Doesn’t Jarrod realize that maybe the current WR has played WR since he was 8? He wants to ruin his dream? Or have the Mudlarks played with 10 on offense all these years and now they are gonna create this new position called WR just for Jarrod?

  7. So, Jarrod’s giving up his fondest hopes, and his reward will be a couple slices of cold pizza?

As for the box in panel 3, I think timbuys is too polite to point out the four-letter word that includes “izz.” Special sauce for you, sir?

  8. For me the remarkable thing here is that True appears ready to bolt the scene because Jarrod is about to show up. First time he has done anything like this that I remember. What, a character exchange? Jarrod is showing signs of getting with the program and True would blow this off? Or does he simply assume Jarrod will continue treating him obnoxiously? But hey, it’s getting toward November and the key games as Mfnrd commits to tying for second in the conference. Thus the story of Gilgamesh and Enkidu has to advance to the “friends” stage.

  9. Gilgamesh and Enkidu? I’d been getting an Esau and Jacob vibe from this one.
    Maybe it’s a plot twist.

  10. FoolyRain, there are only so many basic plots in all of literature. I think we both suspect the same one. But you’re right about plot twists: this could be just a ruse to get True outside in time to witness an accident so John Pascoe can save the victim and Knox Foley can sue someone.
