Travelling for the holidays so brevity is the soul of something, something.

I would like to link to a Jim Mora clip, but that’s too obvious.

It’s not quite Thanksgiving, but I think we can all be thankful for this extended Gil sermon to the VT coach.

  1. goddammit! Gil is perfectly effusive with the heaping dish o’scorn. A veritable cornucopia of derision, served in great gobs of disdain. OK – where’s the turkey?

  2. What is this playoffs business?

    What happened to the “playdowns”?

With December and basketball nigh, will there be enough panels to see Milford to win their first postseason game since I was in high school?

Can VT coach not-Hank Dixon still libel Gil’s players without fear of retribution?

Why does one of Milford’s players have a talking left hand?

Why does Valley Tech have a talking goal post?

Did Jack Elrod draw that last panel?

  3. The self-righteousness gets pretty thick in panel 2. The VT coach didn’t slander one of Gil’s kids; he slandered Gil. And if Jack Elrod had drawn this strip, the coaches’ confrontation would have ended with a hearty Right Fist O’ Justice!

  4. I see no outsized flora or fauna in the foreground of P3; therefore Jack Elrod couldn’t have been involved. Then again, do goalposts count as flora?

  5. Well Gil reamed the nameless VT coach a new one. Wonder why coach nameless suddenly went mute after spouting off to the press.Good to see the play downs starting in Milford Land when just about everywhere else in the country state championship games are already being played.

  6. Downs? Offs? Who knows? “Playoffs” is less Canadian, eh? but after all these years of references to “playdowns” (not that Mfnrd has been in them lately) I half expect to see twelve players on a side, three downs, and one point for a rouge. And Gil would probably be more courteous to that hoser from Valley Tech.

  7. I went to view today’s comic and, using the link to the Houston Chron site under “mudlarkish links” I got a dramatic car crash. On the gocomics site, there’s Gil talking playoffs and actual playoffs. Both are labelled 11/26. Would could this mean? Does the Houston market demand more carnage in their comics?

Someone might catch an error and fix it before long, but at this point I wonder where we are actually being led, storywise.

Oh crap, I just realized this was last years 11/26 strip with Chip and Hamani rolling a car over in front of Ricozzi’s. I was kind of checked out at this time last year if you’ll recall. Forgive the confusion. On with the playoffs! Playoffs??

  8. Ned – I’m from Houston. Bloodthirst + not knowing what year it is = about right for the Comical.

  9. Wait, Ned, you mean someone ran last year’s strip this year by mistake, with the car crash in which John has to be pretty much tasered in order not to rip the doors off the car and rescue his teammates? To cite Yogi, it did seem a little too much like “Deja vu all over again…”

  10. Hey all. Due to somebidy leaving their computer at home (all signs point to me), I won’t be posting an update for today.

    Enjoy the holiday!

  11. For me, the definition of an asshole is someone with whom you might agree with, but they’re so smug about it, you end up disagreeing just to spite them. So yeah, Gil’s being kind of an asshole.

Side note: an asshole is also someone who disagrees with you just out of spite. But hey, at least I own up to it (mostly).
