McKinley hollered, McKinley squalled
Coach said ’bout McKinley, “We can’t play that ball
They’re gonna throw, they’re gonna throw”

Mop told the coach, “They can throw in the rain
Run the halfback option, mute Pascoe brings the pain
From Glenoak to Timken”

“Look here, your defense, it can’t stop the run
Can’t stop them Mudlarks with a fever of 101
They’ll carry us back, to Canton”

The mop came a-running, stopped mopping his wax
Said “Thing about Milford, Thorp’s got two quarterbacks
You’re bound to lose, you’re bound to lose”

“Yonder comes Shuford, he’s running down the line
Blowing past my defense, McKinley’s a-dyin’
In the third round, the third round”

Now Milford’s in the playoffs, they’re doing their best
‘Least that’s what they tell us, we can’t see the rest
Been going on, for all this week

(* Apologies to Flatt & Scruggs and the original songwriter, Charlie Poole)

  1. Wow these games are flying by! Don’t even get any Marty commentaries. Someone must be itching for basketball season. Wonder derived there will be any thing one the state championship game?

  4. It just dawned on me that when Milford whupped a weakened SEMI FINAL opponent, Milford is now in the FINALS for the first time since….since…. help me out here, but my guess is 1967…

  5. What we need here during the playoffs is an open window with the wind peeling off the pages of a calendar to subtly suggest the rapid passage of time. Nothing of note going on in Mfnrd during the weeks it would take to play these games, certainly nothing as compelling as those strips in September where kids sat in The Bucket day after day arguing over which kind of pizza to get. In other words, this final grand smash seems to have obliterated the original story….

  6. These are excellent, teenchy. Good listening. Oh hey, I’m home and have my computer! Oh wait, I’m gone again tomorrow, better hope I bring my computer this time! Normal posts should be coming from me next week if, by normal, we mean very short.
