Sensei? No, Sansei

December 31, 2014

January 1, 2015

We leave 2014 with Liesl Leisl Ishii repeating herself with the answer to a question that wasn’t asked. In so doing she reveals herself to be a Sansei, the term applied to the grandchildren of  Japanese-born immigrants in North and South American countries.

It’s not Mr. Lapinski but Bobby “don’t call me Robert” Howry doing the asking. Bobby may be dressing for the job he wants, not the job he has, but with that loosened necktie he comes off less the teenaged fashion plate and more the teenaged future job holding wannabe.  Wannabe Coach Bobby still needs to learn that offering unsolicited advice shouldn’t be done in the form of a passive-aggressive question. In not making clear that he’s using the collective “you,” he also suffers from pronoun trouble.

So we enter 2015 with the Bobby/Leisl relationship getting off to an awkward, mildly insulting start.  No doubt that’ll get turned around, but how? Maybe via a cameo from Steve Luhm?

Metapost: I see a new “Prairie Style Windows” tag has been added – and I’m not afraid to use it!

  1. Happy New Year!

The many faces of Hi, I Sillies:

    P2 upper: The “your’resuchadumbshit” Ishii-face
    P2 lower: The “angry” Ishii-face
    P3 from 12/30: The “come hither” Ishii-face

    Ok, I’m interested.

  2. Happy New Year!

Prairie Windows, Leisl, and a lugnut who believes he is John Wooden. Ah, we’re off to a grand start!

  3. Also, a tag for chunky bracelets! Sorry, this is just my inherent Obsessive-Compulsive-Get-Everything-Perfectly-In-Order-Complex coming through.

  4. Phuc X Kieu, a name from the GAINESVILLE, Fla police blotter… I wonder what the “X” stands for? Am surprised Mr Kieu has not shown up yet in Milford…

  5. May the record show that g2design canned it on the 12/27 strip by predicting a Liesl and Bobby story. (I’m just going to stick with “Liesl.” We have already used up most of the comic potential for the girl’s misspelled name.)

  6. Let’s imagine how much research Bobby’s gonna do before he loses his virginity to Liesl — “Statistics show that reverse-cowgirl is most satisfying for the woman . . . if you look at this chart, I’ve prepared . . . “
