Well we still don’t know whether Bobby watched the Milford @ Irmo girls’ game in person or remotely. I understand South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the country (as do Michigan and Ohio) so maybe it was a massive road trip! More likely Bobby hid himself in the girls’ equipment bags and looked on from there.

Some of Bobby’s unsolicited advice has rubbed off on Leisl (and it pains me and my spell checker to spell it that way but whatevs) as has his devotion to stats (why else would Leisl remember she shot, like, 20 percent?). But maybe that’s not for the better: maybe Leisl needed that wasted dribble to better line up her shot and not to BONK!

Bobby may have caught a clue as he’s turned his criticism into praise. Between that and introducing her to his pals Cuff and Link, he’s well on his way to winning Leisl’s heart.

  1. Howry wants to be like Bobby Knight, yet he’s wearing a sleeveless sweater.

  2. Not that we should expect Sports Accuracy from this strip… but I don’t know why Bobby is so confident that Leisl will “knock ’em down next time.” Making big changes to your shot is a good way to trigger a lengthy slump.

  3. I’m really enjoying Whigham’s efforts lately. Note the memory-framing of P2, which is also very Whaam’ey in a lichtenstein-esque fashion. Really. Most comics don’t give us the changing perspectives, the facial expressions and hands’n’eyeballs. Good stuff.

  4. I say we officially (on TWIM) change this girl’s name to Lysol, so we do not have to keep tripping up on the spelling. I hate to do it, as she seems pretty cool, but the spelling “Leisl” offends my sense of order. Bobby Howler is an optimist, though, isn’t, he, thinking Lysol will adjust to a new shooting habit in two games? Looks like she was using the “unnecessary” dribble to set her hand to eye for the shot and will now have to do something else. Not easy to just look and fire.

  6. Hope springs eternal on the North Side. Take a look at the name of the second pitcher listed among Cubs Alumni scheduled to appear. Has he been appearing in Gil Thorp as well? You should ask him!
