I’d like to say that today’s strip is just a good, chock full of action, Gil Thorp strip but I really can’t unless you’re one of those perverse folks who likes their Gil Thorp when it’s just baffling. That said, let’s do this panel by panel.

Panel one: That sure is an interesting technique employed by the Lady Mudlark there. She appears to be preparing to serve a volleyball lefthanded while the Tilden player is setting up for a free throw. That’s my best guess anyway, comments are, of course, always invited.

Panel two: I get that that’s Leisl and that she’s supposed to showing some moves but it looks like the ball is getting away from her and, although somewhat obscured by the narration box, someone clearly tied her shoelaces together coming out of a timeout.

Panel three: Hmmmm, do you suppose after Leisl got rejected on a last minute shot – almost identical score too! – Mimi actually rethought her tactics and that is why relatively normally named Andrea Lis is taking the shot? Well, I can’t say, but we aren’t talking about Branding Bobby Howry so I’ll take the cliff hanger even if it looks like we’re going to overtime here.

  1. Is that Bernie Casey in panel 1 from the movie Big Mo’? If so, he grew boobs in panel 3. What a swinging guy!

  2. The Lady Mudlarks are sure hanging tough given that Tilden has inserted Wes Unseld into the lineup.

  3. Good call teenchy. There is no way that isn’t Wes Unseld.

  4. But is that Wes Unseld in P3, or is it Betty Davis?

  5. panel 1–i propose the Milford player got deked out, and Tilden #12 has one helluva spin move…
looks to me like Tilden #12 will block the shot… however will she foul??? stay tuned…

  7. Whigham (“artist”) frequently makes use of his own clip art — repeating figures with slight, or no, variation. I suspect he just filled all three panels with clip-art renderings of basketball players, and clocked out early for Happy Hour.

  8. I hate inconsistency. Lysol’s backcourt partner should be named Andrae. What can we do with “Lis and Lis,” I wonder?
