Doing “Drugs” Makes “Coach” Bobby “Grumpy”

Not much to say about panels one and two (a little cold in Milford for a skirt but what do I know?) and less time to say it so…

Bobby’s scowl in panel three stopped me in my tracks and made me chuckle. That is an epic sourpuss. Cheer up, guy! You’re only possibly/probably committing felonies before you’re old enough to drive. Hey, why don’t you go see what that Leisl Ishii is doing? She seemed to always be on the lookout for some good basketball analysis…

  1. That’s a pretty good contest, if not an outright block by Central’s #11. No way Bacon made that shot.

Unsung hero, panel 2’s double fist pumper. Dude, the newspaper reporter is interviewing players, the game has been over for at least 20 minutes. This wasn’t for the conference title, man, act like you’ve been there before.

  2. Cougar, meet prey. No wonder RoBob is pouting; he thinks, “Hey I’m the talent here. Bacon is just meat.” Well, exactly.

Bobbinator, you don’t pick the Juicy Ducey, she picks you. Go total some stats or something, the Mack Swell Show is just getting started.

  3. Max isn’t following through on the Bacon branding bit. Instead of “Some days you just feel unstoppable,” how about “Some days you’re just a hot tasty hunk of delicious meat”?

  4. My money is on Bobby having taken baby aspirin, scratched out the i.d. and given it to Max. He is waiting until the play downs are over to teach Max the meaning of “placebo effect.” Bobby is grumpy because he now realizes that his brilliant coaching observations and Leisl’s subsequent performance improvement might also be the result of that same effect.

  5. So, Jacobj, you’re implying the emperor’s finding out he’s starkers, and not the next Tarkanian/Knight/Wooden/[applicable name here]?

  6. Added Marjie Duceys tag to this post; good to see her back after her winter trip to FLA. Dont know why Bobby is scowling; his drug obviously worked, though we need more evidence before saying it really made a difference. Time will tell.

  7. Arrrgh, good catch, Rob! I can’t believe I missed it. Well, actually, given the sleep deprived circumstances under which I wrote this one, I absolutely believe it. No guarantees of cogency for tomorrow’s post, that’s for sure!

  8. The visual aspects of today’s strip raise questions. Is Bobby scowling, or is it just a careless drawing? If he is scowling, then why? Is he surprised/annoyed that the placebo “worked” and that this pill-sanding plot will have to continue? Will someone observe a Bobby to Bacon hand-off and blow the gaff? And speaking of hands, what is Margie’s left one doing in P-3?

  9. I’m not a fan of Marjie’s shoes in p2. Our classy reporter needs some better footwear, not the booted slippers she seems to be wearing!

  10. Agree, Milfordian. I could not figure out why the normally stylish Marjie looked like a frump– it’s the shoes.
