The Sweater Vest And Tie Just Scream ‘Authority Figure’

And when Bobby pulls down his glasses so that he can yell at you while looking over the frames, you know he means business…

In other news, it appears that Max knots his tie with a four in hand. I would have though any self-respecting wannabe coach would at least go for a full Windsor but maybe that’s not advised when one is also wearing the aforementioned sweater vest.

Hey, do you think Gil just got the clue he needed to break the case of the above average point guard whose performance marginally improved over the course of the season? Meanwhile, Max waves his index finger in the air for no good reason. The kid may have some talent but he clearly isn’t the brains of this criminal endeavor.

  1. Gil inferred far more from this conversation than a normal human. And perhaps it is Bobby who is Superman, his glasses-pull down is just the latest example of his Clark Kent-ary.

  2. That’s a nasty collection of freak hands in today’s strip. Bobby’s palmless tentacle pods are pure nightmare fuel, and Max’s hand in panel 1 looks like the aftermath of a power-saw accident. Not to mention Bobby’s oversized, bifurcated hand in panel 2.

  3. “What doesn’t make you Superman?”

“Uhm, not being faster than a speeding bullet?”

  4. Oh my goodness, Look! In P1, that’s not RoBob, it’s THE BARON!, nattily turned out in a sweater vest.

In the day, von Raschke’s goosestepping CLAW action was unstoppable. You could look it up.

  5. Those are very Baron like hands. Wonder if he has cauliflower ears to match?

  6. Hmm. Has Gil been observing more than we realized? Is he on to the Tic-Tac caper?

As far as the Windsor knot is concerned, really the only person (aside from fourteen year old prep schoolers) who wore it was the Duke of Windsor, briefly Edward VIII.

If you look up the term “asshole” you will find his picture. Thus Bobby stays with the four-in-hand or perhaps the similarly acceptable half-Windsor.

  7. Lookit the space between his tie & the collar in panels 1 vs 2… IMHO P-1 is a windsor…

  8. I am sure Rowdyman is right. I was simply looking at the size of the knot in p2 and its lack of symmetry. The finished four in hand and half Windsor look about the same though they are tied differently; the exaggerated symmetry of the full Windsor is one of the reasons the Duke was ridiculed as a fop.

  9. […] Give credit where it’s due (or not), as they didn’t just crop the corners of the previous panel depicting that […]
