[sarcastically]Happy Tax Day!

Anorak that I can be sometimes, whenever a vehicle appears in Gil Thorp I’m always trying to figure what make and model it might be. Dad Radley’s ride, with its big boxy rear end, looked at first sight to me like a shape-shifting second-generation VW Jetta coupe. Then I saw its horn pad. Either the Coffee Cantina has been into the car business at some point or Dad has replaced the car’s brand logo with the bottom of a CC go cup.

Since 1960, pretty much anybody with the last name of Radley is gonna get called “Boo.” John Pascoe can get called pretty much anything but he’ll never reply. When a college football program comes calling, how will he respond?

Finally in the “Where is Milford?” department, we see that the road to Central City (at least one of them anyway) is Route 7. What state has state highway signs that are shaped like that? Let’s have a look:

state highway signs

None of them, really, but it gives me an excuse to post this classic en Francais.

Apologies for the random, rambling post. Gotta dash to the post office.

  1. John Pascoe is a “college level kid”.
Who talks like that? What is this, Funky Winkerbean?

  2. I think we all agree that Minnesota has the best looking signs. Lord know we MN taxpayers pay a high premium for those.

Colorado’s is a close second; do they suspiciously look like the new Hillary Logo or is that just me?

*only 4 buttons on the old-school car radio!

  3. Mimi: “Good luck with John Pascoe. You think he’ll listen?”
Gil: “Well, it’s not like he’s going to interrupt me.”

  5. Why is Old Mr. Radley about to punch Boo with his right hand in P1?

In TKAM, Mr. Radley’s name is never given. Boo does stab Mr. Radley in the leg with scissors before the elder dies however. Hummm – a stabbing!

  8. Today’s topic allows me to share the only Country/Western song I ever wrote. I never recorded it so you’ll have to guess what the music would be like for this fragment, all I ever came up with was the refrain:

    “Road 8”

    Road 8
    Just off the interstate
They’ve got a Chevron, an IHOP, a Super Rate Motel
    Burger King and Shell.

    Road 8
    Just off the interstate
That’s where my baby and I spent the night from Hell
    Yeah the night from Hell.

  9. Maybe that’s a sign for a highway on the Purple Heart Trail. http://www.purpleheart.org/PHTrail/ You’d just have to click through every state to see if one had a Route 7 as their Purple Heart Trail. I’ll save you some time, NY is route 5 and GA is I-20.
