Coming Around On The Idea That You’re Only Nervous If You Have Expectations!

Philosophically speaking, I like to think of myself as fairly flexible when it comes to parsing other’s worldviews. That said, I am very intrigued by this idea that you can somehow assuage nervous anxiety by simply purging oneself of ‘expectations’. Perhaps you can. I seriously doubt, however, that this philosophy would get you anywhere in any athletic endeavor beyond children’s soccer.

Then again, I’m not a smart kid nor a quick study. What’s more, it doesn’t look like I’ll be doing any inning at the Ballard anytime soon. So it goes.

  1. True’s words are actually a message to GT readers: Let go of your expectations, relax, and let the mediocrity wash over you.

Ballard? Have we ever heard of Ballard before? This is a case for billytheskink!

  2. The Ballard Bruins were Milford’s second game (and only non-Valley Conference game) of the 2012 football season. Milford lost 13-7 despite the presence of a pre-Doyle Dane contaminated Terry Gallagher at safety.

  3. Twenty-three newspapers printing Gil Thorp? “You’re only nervous if you expectations!”

Hey, can I get an inning at Marjie’s?

  5. We went over a few things technique wise? Wise being the inoperative word . True told and showed Gil how he throws. Gil said, “Looks good.”
True told Gil about this really fast kid in gym class who would be a great CF and base stealer. If only he had someone to teach him techniques.

  6. How neat–Gil scheduled Ballard during Derby week… I bet we’ll see Marty at Check’s chowing down on bratwurst & washing them down with Falls City… I can only wonder where the team will stay??? Hotels are slammed & if one can find a room, it’s at a “premium” price…. Maybe Gil plans on volunteering his team for Sunday cleaning, along side many local high school teams…

  7. I think we’re burying the lead…”We went over a few things, technique-wise” Gil says.

Extra! Extra! Coach Thorp does actual coaching! This may not have happened, since…well…probably the last time I posted anything here.

  8. I wonder if Ballard High is named for former “Mothers-in-Law” TV star Kaye Ballard?

  9. OK. One thing we know about True is that he can throw a ball really hard. That, combined with his stated inability to throw strikes, brings to mind “Major League,” in which Charlie Sheen (as Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn) knocks the head off a plywood batter with a fastball… Predicting a Ballard batter will complain to the umpire that “That last one sounded high.”)
