Whomever can it be that this scout is referring to? Double plus fun that Gil is playing oblivious about his ‘newly discovered’ talent.

  1. Have we seen this guy in the glasses before? Paul Strange? Lanny Penn?

  2. The story arc is fairly straightforward, but the artistic interpretations lately are puzzling. I’ll take a shot:
P1 – Milfs Win! Milfs Win!
P2 – Is that random opposing coach and… Marty in a bucket hat? Is that his proffered handshake, or microphone, or a pay-off?
P3 – Is random opposing coach is talking about Fireman TrueKidBoy, not WP Cass-tee-low? I guess that’s likely; he’d refer to Jordy as “that young Man”.

  4. Panel 1 is either an overuse of forced perspective, or True is flinging the ball at top velocity to a first baseman who’s about five feet away.

So now what? True is a two-sport star with a feisty girlfriend? Does everything just continue to go right for him, or do we get some conflict added to the plot?

  5. Looks like True tried throwing a screwball to first.

  6. Who’s the doughy man in P3?

  7. Is that Steve Garvey at first or is he just flexing?

  8. So here we are left hanging with what English teachers call a “vague reference.” That boy? The context suggest Castillo, but the overall plot says True. Meaning no discourtesy toward Whigrub, whose storytelling has improved 200% since the changes, this is a cheap way to build suspense.

  9. I eliminated the May 6 date above the strip if thats ok. I first thought – whoa, recycled strip. Then realized it was just an error by a bleary-eyed scribe.

  10. Thanks, Rob. I’ve made the correction.
