Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get Grounded for Two Weeks

Honestly, I haven’t even had the motivation to write a song parody for this nonsense. Today’s title is as close as I’ll get.

Good thing True referred to Boo as “a certain pitcher,” otherwise I’d have forgotten that this strip was until recently about sports.  I guess the Cliffs Notes for today’s installment go something like this: Parental discipline makes Boo feel like her parents care about her, rather than catering to her every whim in an effort to show who’s the better parent post-divorce.

It has been many a moon since I was in high school but I don’t ever recall leaning into a girl by her locker only to pull back for a high-five. (These two didn’t even high-five after their first breakthrough.)  Pull back after getting my face slapped, maybe…

So, drinks by the pool with Gil and Mimi on Monday?

  1. TMI Alert!
As a young dweeb, (“dweeb” predates “geek” which apparently I was/am), I often wondered on the lives of the high school power-couples. The locker banter, the mysterious lingo, the flawless skin… Here, decades later, the mystery is finally revealed for me. Turns out that it’s, well, a bit underwhelming, lemmetellyou.

Thankfully, there’s nothing here that some golf action wouldn’t improve. Golf, another source of mystery.

  2. No, g2design, no! Anything but golf! I’ll confess to everything! I started the Reichstag Fire!

  3. I noticed yesterday that True and Boo were the only kids not carrying books. But of course, they were on they’re way to their lockers to get books. Alas, it seems the lockers are only there to lean on. Which is fitting since neither one has a coach to lean on.

  4. g2design I was/am a nerd.. “dweeb” means something different to me, while geek & nerd mean the same. but “geek” implies mathematical/scientific skills….

  5. In my small northern MN school (k-12), there were only jocks, burnouts and dweebs. The latter was a very expansive and encompassing group. But I’m not bitter.

  6. July 11th and we finally wrap up the spring sports story arc? Football practice starts mid-August, I’d imagine. I think Rubin needs to scrap the summer throwaway arc and move straight to fall, at this point. (SMH at the waste of time we’ve just gone through.)

  7. And the girls’ softball season vanishes without a trace.

  8. John S— maybe the summer plot will be girls’ softball, mixed with puppy lust….

  9. Amen, Rowdyman. Molly Kinsella returns to coach? It’s perfectly possible, since softball leagues run all summer, and we might get to follow out some of the stories begun and abandoned. Anything but golf, or another of these dorky boys who think they’re the next great coach, attorney, or ad man…
