Panel one just looks all kinds of wrong today. Gil’s flattop is a mess and I really don’t want to have to think any further about everything that’s going on with the glass and his hand.

Relatedly, an occupational hazard of being a TWIM blogger is trying to think about saying something about this stuff. Well, my injury – as it were – from today, is that I now have that stupid polka dot bikini song in my head as a result of trying to think of something funny for panel three.

  1. Looks like Whigham got the foot memo. Polka dot chick has been artfully positioned in P3 to save us the horror of TheOneTrueOne’s feets.

  2. True and Boo: Mullet Beach
    Premieres July 28th on TLC

  3. I see from panel one that Gil hasn’t solved his drinking problem. And polka dot person’s top is rolling a hard eight.

  4. If Whigham wanted to reinforce the narration point — that True has found True Boo Love — he could have done better than to place Miss Teeny-Weeny at center stage. My first thought was, “Ah, so True is at the beach ogling all the hotties.”

The panel does, however, give a fine illustration of Milford Beach’s #1 game: Hubcap Fling.

  5. So the gist is that True IS going to an out of town football camp, not moving away. About Whigrub’s hinting otherwise in yesterday’s strip, j’accuse.

Yellow polka dot… It’s even the right modest, early sixties style and size. And isn’t that hairstyle a wind altered flip? Again, Mfnrd, delightfully behind the times…

  6. Gil has to say goodbye because True is going to an elitist QB camp? What a cheap cliff hanger. Not surprised.
Some women wear their mom’s wedding dress when the get married. In Milford they wear their mom’s old bikini. What a quaint tank town.

  7. Where’s Molly Kinsella in her Diet Coke-box cardboard bikini?

  8. In P2: “Fortunately…” Huh? Shouldn’t True be abstainingor something?

P3: The sail in the background, just beyond True’s frontbottom: an homage to Shark Week 2015, an artistic expression of True’s potency (sorry…), a rip in the space-time continuum; or… perhaps it’s just a sail.

  9. I suspected that yesterday’s little “cliffhanger” was just a misdirection used to try and create a little tension in this strip that generally lacks the story elements for real tension.

Gil surely isn’t patting himself on the back there. Get back to us when you send a player to an “elite camp” who wasn’t already on the radar of the “elite camps” before he plopped himself into your lap.

It was basically established last summer that Gil doesn’t put a whole lot of stock in any of the machinery which elevates high school players into “elite” status. It was similarly established that True wasn’t really buying into his own hype and ultimately wanted more out of school than playing football and building up a recruiting profile. So why is this camp important to Gil and why is True even going? Is Art still pushing True and hoping to get Urban Meyer and Nick Saban to start making visits to the Standish place? That balloon deflated pretty quickly last year. Are we pumping some more air in it now? Will there be any plot whatsoever, or should we all just mullet out at the lake for 6-8 weeks?

  10. Ned asks all the right questions; let me paraphrase, add, and otherwise misrepresent. Is True still aiming at Miami of Ohio? Are his grades any good? Is False still pushing him toward some football factory? Is Gil simply slack or does he really believe D-1 football is something most kids are wasting their time thinking about? Will we find that he took True on for baseball because he accepted that True really wants to be a “normal kid?” Will True and Boo establish something good for both of them? Will success spoil Rock Hunter?

  11. Today’s post will be coming late from me so if anyone wants to take a stab at it, feel free.
