Have ‘Em Blur Me Out

I can’t decide which I like better: Strips with Marty getting drunk or strips with Gil getting his comeuppance.

Doctor Pearl is relishing this almost too much as she reveals that there is one power on earth higher than even Coach Thorp.

  1. Dr. Pearl almost looks like Paul Strange in a wig, but the aptly named Strange wore more makeup.

  2. Vaganova, yesterday you spoke of the strip going to a parallel dimension. You were wrong: it’s perpendicular.
FoolyRain, yesterday you spoke of suspension of disbelief, and how this story has already gone past any limits. I suspended disbelief for James Bond, at least two Dune novels, and Diagon Alley. I couldn’t swallow what Rubin has cooked up if you cut it in little pieces and wrapped them in bacon. The same principal who has been so quick to punish anyone who might hurt Milford HS’s reputation now smirks as she tells Gil he has to cooperate with something guaranteed to ruin that reputation? Parents content with moving their child out of Holly’s classroom and taking no further action? Up here, they’d be circulating a petition for a special election to replace the school board and fire the superintendent, and the teachers’ lawyers would be “oh no you didn’t” about what the superintendent made clear.

  3. 1995 called. They want their camcorder back.

  4. C’mon Gil, whenever you see the camera’s red light just go into a monolog about the intimate details of your past relationship with Holly.
“Hey Holly, do you still have that cute little birthmark on your inner right thigh??”

  5. Looking forward to a couple weeks’ worth of Douchey Gil ruining every shot he’s in, followed by dire threats from the Superintendent. However, if it takes time away from “Holly Stomping on Marty’s Heart,” I’ll be disappointed.

Also, I hate to keep returning to real-world practicality, but I think the teachers’ union would have something to say about this.

  6. FHW, “perpendicular” is a good term. Compelling people to appear on camera is not even legal, you cannot sign away minors’ rights to not do so, and as I have been saying (I will shut up about this, I promise) there isn’t a school district in the country that would consent to this idiocy, unless they are trying to set the Guinness record for the greatest number of lawsuits in process at one time against a school. Rod Serling would not touch this one with a forked stick.

Again, we are accustomed to unrealistic developments in Mfnrd. But this one is insane.

  7. “Nope.” would be Carnac the Magnificent’s answer to the question, “Is this plot even plausible?”

  8. Hey Rubin, if I feel the need to read a comic strip where the main character whines about a wholly inaccurate depiction of “Hollywood” and the entertainment industry I can read Funky Winkerbean.

  9. Anyone else wondering where Marjie Ducey is in this lunacy of a storyline? The only character in the strip worth being on camera, her career at the Milford Star would abruptly end within a week of this reality show starting, and she’d be on her way to bigger and better things, far far away.

  10. I agree with much of the sentiment expressed above… but, am I a terrible person if I’m also looking forward to the depiction of rival coaches digging into Gil either on the show itself or on the sidelines?
