Oh no! It looks like Dory’s pitch meeting with Alan Mayne is having far reaching repercussions! Benching! Moon being Moon! Sacking! That’s right, actual football action is happening right there in Panel 3.

Gee, I wonder if Art Standish is miffed about True’s left tackle riding the pines while his son gets blindsided (sort of). We haven’t got time for all that, because…

it’s Madison Time (now with Maynard G. Krebs):

  1. Is this the first actual sports action we’ve seen since Brent Raptor was a senior? Probably not, but it sure feels like its been that long.

  2. Dory is in street clothes and no one is saying why? How bout the guy holding up the sign in panel 2? I’m sure the sign says Dory met with Alan Mayne at a seedy hotel. How redundant. Are there any other types of hotels in that tank town?

  3. The epic battle of the M’s! Yes, I know the apostrophe is questionable, but I need to emphasize this is not powderpuff football, but the actual action thing! As in, Ms. Magazine won’t be covering it.

Uh, Dorky, didn’t you study your Mark Twain? “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”

  4. I don’t feel any better about myself having called this on Saturday but I honestly expected “benched” to mean “not starting,” not “not dressing out.” Let the scrub start the first series then put Dor(k)y in after the three-and-out.

Obviously Gil never had any intention of trying to defend the state championship. Putting The Milford Way ahead of success on the field jeopardizes the safety of his QB in a way not letting him go out for basketball never would. The long-absent Art Standish should be on Gil’s ass like white on rice.
