Kenzie Hanley Debuts A Doozy

Filed under: actual action, basketball, Kenzie Hanley — nedryerson @ 4:47 am

It’s time to watch Jefferson employ the Hack-a-Hanley strategy. I guess we’ve just glossed over the part where Kenzie went from clumsy ball chucker to inside scoring threat. In Panel One, we see how Kenzie has added an element of driving down the lane to score, although its perplexing to see her with two hands on the ball somewhere near the top of the key.

Nitpicking aside, the game action now centers around Kenzie’s free throw technique. That’s right, hold onto your hats! OH, NO! She missed her first two shots! Will she compose herself and find the touch she developed in practice? More importantly, will she keep handling the ball enough to even get to the line, even though it still looks like she’s playing rugby on the hardwood? (Okay, so that’s more nitpicking.)

  1. Panel 1 features (a) worst interior defense ever, with one player off to Kenzie’s side and nobody else in the lane, and (b) least impactful foul ever, the merest touch on Kenzie’s mighty elbow. At this rate, we’re never going to get that bench-clearing scrum we’ve been hoping for.

  2. Further evidence that Mfnrd is a magical place. Just a few weeks ago Kenzie was making observations about the funny-shaped ball she had handled only in gym class years before, now she’s driving inside like Kevin McHale. That’s the kind of skill that’s a lot harder than it looks.

  3. Two shot foul, so in the act of shooting? Do I have that right or is the HS girls rulebook different? Is she in the act of shooting in P1(?).

I’m obviously confused; the Jefferson Pinky Claw™ in P1 and K-Han’s shrinking hands in P2 have me rattled.

  4. Also, disappointed that panel 3 omitted the customary “BONK!”

  5. Her hands should be parallel to each other. No wonder she bonked. She better watch the Rick Barry tape again.

  6. Did anyone bother to let Mimi know about the new technique? I’d love to have Marty Moon or Marjie Ducey (remember her?) follow up with Mimi after Milford loses by however many FT’s Kenzie misses while throwing ’em up there underhanded.
