Hollaback Cretin

Okay, so Kenzie who is new to the Thorpiverse already knows the Winter Blast is a thing. Who else knew the Winter Blast was a thing? I honestly don’t ever recall reading about it in this strip. And who are these people? Bunch of name checking going on but I don’t see any of them in P1. Of course I wouldn’t recognize Stacy Duford if she was standing at the free throw line.

Oh well, if it’s any consolation I get to pull the rare “Central City Cretins” tag. You’d think Milford kids would know by now to stay out of Central City but nope. Some brain surgery patient in a pea coat and yet another tonsure boy are gonna pick a fight with, uh, one of those four who got name checked earlier. I missed the hollering part but, then, didn’t we all? Our last best hope is that Kenzie goes She-Hulk on these two which will, of course, cause some sort of injury to her that won’t kill her rugby future but will kill the Lady Mudlarks’ season.

metapost: I too will be out of commission next week, Thursday to be specific. TWIMers, I’ll need some help covering. Maybe one of you Monday-Wednesday guys could swap with me? Much obliged.

metapost part deux: Somehow in this March madness we missed the news of the death this week of Clyde Lovellette, another big player who shot underhand free throws. Lovellette was the first player (and only one of seven to date) to play on an NCAA championship team, an NBA championship team, and an Olympic gold medal winning team. Check his form at the charity stripe here. Rest in peace, big man.

  1. Ah, Gil Thorp’s America, where the small town and the big city are full of white kids learning life lessons or (in Central City) being idiots, and black kids who are good at sports. Just like God intended.

  2. Only a Central City Cretin would start trouble at The Winter Blast! (That sentence just ruptured something in my brain.)

Trouble? That starts with T and that rhymes with C and that stands for Cretins, mouth breathing, head bandaged Cretins!

  3. Ha ha! Good stuff John S. Those Central City Greasers don’t like them Soc’s from Milford. Pity the back seat, man!

  4. Every so often, this strip dials up The Want in me. Sometimes there are things here that make me think, like, “Gee, I really wish I had Prairie Style Windows”, and “Gee, how can I get my floors to shine like that”, and “Gee, I wonder if Juicy Deucey..”; well, never mind that.

Today: “Gee, what I wouldn’t give for a bitchin 10′ low angle kid friendly snow slide.” Anyone WINT it like I WINT it? And do I spy half a Ferris Wheel? Oh Geez.

  5. It’s about time some badass dudes entered the fray. This was far too happy a story line.

  6. And I just want to say that Thorp has never had any control over these twerps. If Arnold Brett had not been murdered, none of the shit that’s about to go down would even happen.

  7. That Central City Winter Blast is the event of the year, but somebody tell the skater in panel 1 to “soften that knee.” I love the mash-up of the Rideau Canal with the Mall of America. But I think I may have been right in my guesswork: what teenchy has clept the Central City Cretins have something in mind in panel 3, and I am hoping against hope that we are about to see them sailing through windows (or at least unconscious over banquettes) courtesy of Kenzie.

  8. For the snow slide, zipline, music… random appearance of the New Mexico state flag.

I’m trying to figure the appeal of a zipline during winter in the flat, flat Midwest.

  9. Haha, timbuys– great shooting on the zipline.
