Thorp V. Thorp

Is this the new plot focus? I was going to categorize this one as ‘What the hell is going on here?’ but between yesterday’s P3 and today’s P1, we are definitely getting another dose of plot padding.

When I have to contemplate making some sort of joke about the Hill Descent Control on the Coaches Thorp’s SUV or that their radio is tuned to an unusual AM radio band, you know the strip is a snoozer.

  1. Don’t know why Gil is listening to Marty. He must miss Jay Mariotti.

  2. Realistically, we haven’t seen enough of the actual basketball seasons to know for sure if anyone’s over- or under-achieved. Good old Marty, desperate for the spring ratings book. “Hey, Moon, you drew a sparkling 0.1 share last fall. Step it up, or you’re hittin’ the concrete. I can always replace you with Colin Cowherd, you know.”

  3. WDIG gets only a tenth of the frequency spectrum of the typical AM signal. You need a special radio to tune it in. This only adds to the mystery of why the Thorps go to these lengths to listen. Maybe Marty broke into their car and programmed all the presets and they haven’t been able to figure out how to change the station or turn it off.

  4. Actually, Mimi taking over Gil’s job could be a very interesting turn of events for this strip. Maybe not in the hands of Rubin, but the idea itself has merit.

  5. GAH!! Moon’s lookin’ right at me! Marty, STOP! Why ya lookin’ at me like that!? I didn’t do it! Nobody saw me! I swear I………okokokokok… I did… I did…I did read Mary Worth first. I admit it – you got me. But I didn’t like it. It’s boring too. Really. For real life. I swear. juststoplookinatmelikethat!

  6. Speaking of overachieving, why doesn’t Marty have “Whud!” over the Central City beat-down incident?

  7. It does seem like a pretty gaping hole in the logic of the plot progression, Dood. I mean, you know that whatever blogs cover the U-20 Women’s national team are all over this.

  8. That’s a great point– why isn’t Marty beating on the Central City rumpus? I’m surprised he has not turned an act of preventative self-defense into out of control thuggery the Thorps are to blame for. He may barely be able to remember his own name day by day but he always manages to find some way to embarrass Mfnrd HS. Oh, sorry, I forgot– Marty is the strip’s stand in for the Evil Mass (or in this case micro) Media.
