This Season’s Arc Resolved Rather Quickly

Wow, let’s briefly summarize the surprisingly abrupt conclusion of this plotline. Kaz does the only actual coaching by telling Barry to shut up once and for all, while Gil teaches us a lesson we all should know: when life is stressful and you just need to drink four bottles of rotgut wine to forget about your trainwreck of a career, get blotto at home!

Too bad we never got to see the trial (or maybe we did!)

  1. As usual, Kaz doing the dirty work. Reminds me of when Johnny Carson would have Jim Fowler on and Johnny would mock Marlin Perkins. “While Jim is out wrestling an alligator…” . Marlin would be sitting in the comfortable studio.

  2. So Kaz’s idea of breaking up a fight nowadays is to stand 10 feet away and gesture toward the scrap? Apparently it works, but it was not that long ago that he was breaking up fights by picking guys up off the ground like Ken is doing in panel 2.

Is Gil even in the locker room? Did Ken steal Han Solo’s pants? Does Mimi think Del Bader’s potential incarceration is funny?

  3. I swear the P3 art is a recycle, but I lack the time and motivation to prove it. That swoopy white… Milky Way(?) Contrail Smogsmear outside the window – we’ve seen that before, no? And that dipshitdrunksquint on Mimi – that too.

  4. I’m digging seated anonymous player in the looker room, casually glancing over his shoulder as one teammate (who has been ranting and raving about his dad’s DUI) is being lifted off his feet. He’s so casual, as if this happens all the time.

So was Gil anywhere in the area or did he just get a text from Kaz.

I’m in agreement with billy. I think we needed to see Kaz lift both Ken and Barry up, one with each arm, and say, “Let me make it clear to you boys that the only one authorized to do body lifting here is me. Understood?”

  5. On further review of P3, is that a plane going down? The Thorps oblivious as they chuckle over families in turmoil. They rid themselves of their “burden” a long time ago. Cheers!

  6. I think that IS the Milky Way. This confirms what we have known, that Milford is an isolated rural time-warp, a place where there is so little light pollution that you can see the Milky Way from indoors with the lights on. But it’s also possible that Gil and Mimi are both shitfaced from drinking red (her expression is in fact suspect) and that in keeping with recent breakthroughs, The Chief has gone cubist, showing us both the couple AND their perception of the sky in the same frame.

I like Ned’s commentary on the uninvolved teammate (much like yesterdays’s shadow people) and suspect the rest of the team’s attitude toward Barry is EOTS (“enough of this shit.”)

  7. Ned’s on the money with the comment about the seated teammate. Kind of reminds me of the scene in “North Dallas Forty” where John Matuszak’s character lifts assistant coach Charles Durning off the floor by his lapels and goes on an epic rant ( that brings the best response ever from Nick Nolte’s Pete Elliott: “Far out.”

  8. Today In Freak Hands: the hand in the foreground of panel 2 is definitely a retread. The scary one today is Gil’s gigantic paw in panel 3. It’s bigger than Mimi’s head!

  9. g2design–looks like a Christmas or Thanksgiving scene from the past…….

  10. I appreciate the irony of the Thorps getting drunk, laughing about someone else’s DUI.

  11. I added freak hands to the tags.

  13. Gil’s dialogue in P3 is in response to Mimi’s suggestion for the evening’s foreplay. Hiyo!
