This Week in Milford

What Stuff?

Filed under: Fat Guys, Just plain sad, What the hell is going on here? — timbuys @ 8:40 am

So, we’re all clear on Boo having thrown a no-hitter and celebrating it at the Bucket. And, we’re all clear on Del having maybe not closed a deal for a jumbo order of some stuff while seeming to have at least gotten his customer loaded on, presumably, some other stuff. Well, maybe we’re not so clear on that last one, but we’ve clearly gone from ‘foreshadowing’ to glaringly telegraphing the next plot ‘twist’ as these respective parties wind up.

Finally, are we clear on what the hell is going on here in panel three? Is that True? No clue who those other folks are in the panel or when the discussion of AP English started. Is this even supposed to be happening at the same time of day?

Tune in tomorrow (or possibly late next week at the current rate of plot advancement) for what may be a very special week (or weeks) of coverage here at TWIM.

Edited to add: I see now that yesterday’s strip established that True was in fact doing this group work simultaneously with the other depicted celebrations.

  1. timbuys, I have a grim foreboding of a three-way DUI smash-up with Drinkin’ Guy Del and the star-crossed item-now-friends. Can’t we have a lighter summer with Juarez Laredo challenging Beau Dandy to a full-cage death match in Central City?

  2. I sincerely hope they have mastered AP English, as the exam was 2 or 3 weeks ago ….

  3. Brings to mind the soundtrack of my misspent youth; the ‘Mats, Johnny’s Gonna Die. Bob Stinson, R.I.P.

  4. Yes, that’s True all right, and that’s his study group preparing for the well past (thank you, viscosity) AP English exam. I’ve been saying for days that I have a bad feeling about this, and we seem to be unanimous. To cite Columbo, “There’s just one thing that bothers me,” the fact that Bader the Less– who will presumably have to involved in the upcoming grand smash– has not been seen for days.

  5. Del arrived at Selasky’s on 21 May … ten days ago. I think I’ve seen restaurants open and go out of business in less time than that. Also consider the glacial pace of the DUI, which, in the real world, in handled in less time than it takes to connect to a coffee shop WiFi. More evidence that Milford exists in a place where time has no meaning.
You realize Rubin could cross us all up by having Del phone his wife for a ride

  6. I share Philip’s impatience, but we need to remember that the summer plot (Gil agrees to box The Atomic Pygmy to raise money for the kiddie golf program) cannot begin until 4th of July weekend. Let’s hope the available time allows The Chief to produce more really good drawings– multiple angle views of airborne cars in the upcoming crash, and a dark, moody image of Bader the Less realizing that his late father’s example is the explanation for his own idiocy. I think we all hope True ‘n Boo will be unharmed, but there will be lots of industrial solvent available for the cleanup in any case.

  7. Okay, so Del spent ten days getting the client good and sloshed, and he DIDN’T CLOSE THE DEAL??? Bad salesman!

I’m a bit more optimistic about the survival of all and sundry. Rubin’s not the kind to start killing characters; that’s more like Tom Batiuk territory.

  8. What Stuff, you say? Why, Big Bob Stuff, of course!

Love the parking jobs in The Bucket’s lot. Can any of those cars open their driver’s doors? Is that an impact-bumper Porsche 911 at the far end? And who put the big rubber ducks on the windshields?

  9. Teenchy’s right– that does look a lot like a dodge ’em car 911 at the far end….
