Trivialize Her?

That thing with the scouts yesterday sure wrapped up quickly.  Why do I have a feeling the summer plot is going to be some combo of Bader trial courtroom antics and True getting recruited to play minor league ball instead of going to Wake forest?

  1. My money’s on “ditch the spring storyline and leave all the unresolved issues hanging”. It’s Rubin’s usual M.O.

I like the frozen, faintly carnivorous smile on Marjie’s face in panel 2. “Oh boy, a nice meaty human-interest story. This ought to get me some pageviews! Oh wait, must remember to look concerned and sympathetic.”

  2. Is Marjie going to “console” 18 year old Tru?

  3. A few thoughts … and I will congratulate myself for being able to think after seeing today’s strip.
    1. It’s official. Like Fenster in “The Usual Suspects”, Boo’s role was to die, thereby advancing the plot.
    2. It’s really not her fault the plot didn’t advance. Today shows us nothing we didn’t already know. It doesn’t even set anything up. Rubin could have run three blank panels.
    3. I said this in the fall: I did a little sportswriting, and I never talked to a high school athlete without a parent or coach present.

  4. @Phillip – Die he did, but damn he had some great lines. “Flip ya for real!”

  5. Maybe Phillip can address this, but it occurs to me that Marjie looks way too happy that True isn’t answering her question, but instead asking and answering his own. It’s a somewhat more advanced media management technique than I’d have given him credit for anyway.
