Boo’s-eye View

Not much to say today beyond this crazy time dilation thing. I guess The Stability of Baseball is going to make a man out of Barry and help him lead Milford to third in the Valley just before Labor Day weekend.

Interesting choice of perspective in P2: is it that of the late Boo Radley? The entire panel is messed up, with the players, the umpire, the batter’s boxes and home plate all seemingly drawn to different scales.  Speaking of different scales, how about the Oakwood fielder with Zippy’s cap?

  1. Ah yes that hat. Why would he wear Eddie Gaedel’s hat? That’ll be worth a lot of money some day.

  2. Okay, so Barry’s going to be an insufferable jerk when he brags about “leading the team to victory” with his lousy bloop singles. Still waiting for him to be stuffed into a locker and left alone overnight.

  3. “Fortuitous”? – damn, this dreck as gone highbrow on us.

Just remember Barry, “you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week… and you’re in Yankee Stadium.”

    [thanks teenchy for the inspiration]

  4. Is that Oakwood outfielder trying to catch that ball with his crotch?

  5. If that sliding Oakwood outfielder catches his left heel cleat, as it appears he is about to, there will be a brief delay while they cart him off for x-rays.

  6. Nice to see one of the all-time greats, Bobby Mitchell, still stroking it.

Meta-Comment: So, I see teenchy commented on my last post about forty minutes before posting his own. I am going to guess that, like me, he didn’t spend a solid forty minutes writing from the time he first started thinking about his post until the time he pressed the update button working on it.

For me at least, writing about this latest story has been like scraping gum off your shoe with a stick on a hot day.

  7. If Tod Andrews coaches Oakwood’s baseball team too, he might want to think about sticking to football.

  8. meta: @timbuys, no, it didn’t take me forty minutes to draft today’s post. My process usually starts with reading the previous day’s comments, downloading the day’s strip, uploading to the blog, then writing the post. I don’t ever read the Gocomics.com or Curmudgeon posts before I do; as a result I’m sometimes surprised when my ideas have already been captured at one or the other of those sites. Maybe I shouldn’t be, as I don’t have many original thoughts in my head.

In any case, my Thursday posts are seldom as thought out as my Saturday posts.

  9. Has it been established what year Bader-Bloop is at Milford? Is there any chance he’s a senior?

    Comment by Dood — July 21, 2016 @ 9:14 am

  10. Dood, I think Bader-Bloop is a sophomore (facepalm.)

  11. In P-2 the right handed hitter’s box is closer to the plate than the left handed hitter’s…

  12. Barry’s not a senior, since he mentions taking the 2nd base job away from “some big senior” back in early April, but beyond that, I don’t his class has been specified. The “big senior” Barry beat out, I guess, was Larry Arroyo.

  13. And the plate is not aligned with the baseline– much of it is in foul territory, in fact. As good as the Chief’s drawing has been, he still has a bitch of a time with geometry. At least the chain link fence ten feet from the basepaths seems to have disappeared.

  14. Bader is a junior. He’ll surely be in military school next year. Not to worry.

    Comment by Jive Turkey — July 21, 2016 @ 1:03 pm

  15. He will have to drop out of baseball so he can spend more time visiting dear old dad in the slammer.
