Is Del wearing a County Jail bomber’s jacket?

Hey, it’s that thing where the first panel is pretty much the same as yesterday’s (note the placement of the apostrophe). That’s just what we need to move things along.

True story:

Yesterday afternoon, I was getting ready for a business trip to a city that is close enough to where I live but far enough from its local airport that it’s almost a wash between flying and driving.

As I loaded CD’s into the multi-disc CD player (fancy!) in my not-so-late model car, I involuntarily became aware of the possibly tragic consequences I could incur had I tried to load these discs en route. So kudos to you Gil Thorp for effectively conveying that single message.

  1. 911, that’s so hard to remember in an actual emergency that it’s right there for you on the wall. How did Del remember the operator’s number ? I don’t see 0 on the wall.

  2. It might be indicative of how bored we are with this plot that I’m more interested in commenting on car CD players than the strip. The first car I bought with any CD player had a multidisc system, but the magazine that you loaded the discs resided in the trunk, so there was no “fumbling with CDs” possible unless I tried some Indiana Jones crap in my 1997 Toyota Corolla. I guess I could have fumbled with the cases if I wanted to read liner notes as I drove or I could have fished around for the dinky little remote that controlled the CD player.

About this strip (broken record time): I have no interest in researching this, but I fail to see how the prosecution of the other driver changes anything about Del’s case. Del was impaired and drove recklessly. He caused the accident. There was a fatality. He had a previous DUI. There’s surely all kinds of mandatory sentencing type stuff here, depending on what state Milford is actually in. Del and company seem to be approaching this as if there is a finite amount of jail time and other penalties to be shared between Del and the other driver.

  3. Is this storyline ever going to end? Oh, hey, look, 867-5309.

  4. Ned – IIRC my mom had discs-in-the-trunk in her late-90s Chrysler Sebring. (Me, my T-Bird had a tape player, so I had to get one of those cassette-shaped adapter things & plug it into a Discman. GOOD TIMES. Still not sure how I managed not to cut a swath of death & destruction through the streets of Houston, what with all the CD-fumbling. Heh.)

Never mind that, though — the big news is that Gil’s Barber is back! Jeez, man, you picked a humdinger of a time to come back.

  5. Didn’t Driving Causing Death open for the Mystic Pranks in Central City a couple years back?

  6. Does MA Bader think Del is going to walk away from this because the other driver got charged with some bogus “Driving Causing Death” crime. He was still driving drunk with no headlights on. He created the circumstances that led to the death. Let’s wrap up this annoying storey line already.

  7. Bobby Joe and Professor Ned have said all that needs to be said about the distribution of guilt. Some Scottish court has charged driver 3 with a crime which does not exist in the US, and which does not change the fact Dipshit Del is responsible for the whole thing. He was about as visible as a cloaked Romulan starship, Boo pulled out of the parking lot, and he creamed her. The rest is aftereffect details– unimpaired people jolted in Boo’s case and momentarily distracted in D-3’s. The good news is that we will probably miss only football season– DD should come to trial around December.
