This Is The Frostiest August On Record

Lest you thought it was only baseball that was lingering into August, here is some softball “action”. Are there any stakes to this game? We don’t know but good ol’ Leisl Ishii might be about to lift some fog. All of Milford has been shrouded in this mysterious haze for weeks and the all the clocks have stopped. Maybe Leisl’s derring-do will set things straight and return order. Or not.

  1. I don’t believe the rules of softball allow a batter to hang from the top line of the panel while in the batter’s box.

  2. As Ned pointed out, Mfnrd has entered a mysterious haze and remains there. This probably explains why the third base foul line is forty degrees off the point of the plate, and why the batter’s boxes are almost entirely in foul territory. Thinking of sending The Chief a protractor or a set of triangles. He’s been doing remarkably well with dramatic renderings of characters in this story, but his ability to draw a ballfield still lags.

  3. Nothing sez “frosty” like Bobby Ottewill pointing out of a dugout while Dinny Perez hangs in the background. Why these two are still in Milford after graduating years ago is a mystery no one cares to solve.

  4. Isn’t that Derek “Slim” Chance in the dugout too?

  5. Hey look, the girls are back! How many days until the attention shifts back to the pointless Socratic dialogues of the male pinheads? Over/under is 2 1/2.

  6. A haiku:

    Dear Mr. Whigham,
Baseball caps don’t look like that!
