Après Moi, Le Pelwecki

tmgil161020

So now Kevin is the fifth-string quarterback, between the Mississippi National Guard and the League of Women Voters. No actual word on who the second-, third- or fourth-stringers are. Also no word as to why The Secret Pelwecki is getting some reps under center. Maybe Gil thought he hadn’t made enough belittling dickish comments for the day.

Finally, no word on how Rick Scott knows how Pete DeWindt hurt himself on that big block. Perhaps he is The Injury Whisperer, much as his new understudy Heather fancies herself The Quarterback Whisperer. I suppose this presages the position switch The Real Pelwecki tipped us off to: not to QB but to TE (as this strip prints it). I’m sure Gil will cook up a play that lets him make a handoff – some kind of reverse or double reverse.

  1. Not sure who the second-string QB is, but I think one-armed Coach Boone is third on the depth chart and Marty Moon is fourth. Great character-building by Gil, shitting publicly on Pelwecki’s dreams. Gil isn’t so much a coach as a living, breathing Comments section.

  2. Trainer Rick Scott needs more lines just so I can read them in Patrick Stewart’s voice.

  3. The injury was easy to spot. Pete can no longer run like De Windt. Bah-da-da-da, dah-dah, dah-dah.

  4. What is it about (Milford) Kevin that induces everyone to give him shit? Is there any other reason Gil would have been wasting reps on him at QB again? I only wish we could have seen panel one and a half where the running back trips over The Secret’s outstretched foot.

  5. Throwing my own hat in the ring, I was going to suggest Earl Morrall, Fred Flintstone, and The Joker, in that order, before they came around to Last Resort Pelwecki but our feature writer and John S. give scenarios just as hilarious. Then in P1, I was going to say that the coach overseeing handoff procedures was Mort from Bazooka Joe fame but his shirt doesn’t stretch over the lower 1/3 of his face unless Gil changed the policy. Gumby’s second cousin would be more like it.
In P3, we are left hanging as we are already dealing with plots that are crossing wires, now a monkey wrench is gumming up the works in Milford. So allow me to predict what will happen when this particular strip is extended a la The Sunday Comics:
Rick: Gil, Bad news, De Windt’s Jock Itch is flaring up again. Might be 4-6 weeks.
    Gil: Damn
Rick: This plot is already taking too many twists and turns and now this. Whattya think?
Gil: We’ll just have to suck it in. No other choice.
Rick: yeah, but I’m concerned we got too much on our plate to sort through all the BS. You think we can get this whole White Elephant of a plot, let alone manage the team, unraveled by November, when you’re scripted to coach the basketball team?
Gil: If I can s trudge through the dog doo doo Vance Ewell slung at me when I was interviewing for the Powell College job, a plot and a team are no-brainers.

  6. Gil: Yep, I was twirling Basketball Head Ewell on my fingertips by the end of the summer with plenty of time to spare before football. Heck, I wasn’t married to Mimi then so it was margaritas and dart tournaments at Milford Bar ‘n’ Grill until it was officially time to hit the gridiron. I took home 3rd place in the tournament. Them were good times.

  7. billytheskink @2: Make it so!

Dood @3: That was awful and I salute you.

  8. Ohh… K. So now Mfnrd’s main tight end is out. Palooka is a lineman with some newly acquired quarterback skills. Wondering if we will see some kind of trick pass play by an end which will have the officials flipping through the rule book.
