Guess What I Heard, Dr. Pearl?

Gil wraps up his visit to the candid Van Aukens, then runs to Dr. Pearl to share all the hot gossip with her. I’m not sure why Dr. Pearl needs to know all this. Nothing really happened at the game that Ryan had to answer for. Maybe that look on Dr. Pearl’s face is saying, “why are you bothering me with this? what happened?”

I have that look on my face now, too.

  1. TMI, Gil, unless rumors are taking off at Mfnrd and you need Dr Pearl’s help in tamping them down. In other words, bulls-eye for Dr Ned.

  2. Dr. Pearl isn’t interested unless it involves something Gil is opposed to that would bring revenue to the school or something that would allow her to say “I told you so” to Gil. So this is probably a cameo.

  3. Candor is a new brand of whiskey from Flint, MI. Nothing but the best rotgut for Coach Thorp!

  4. Billy beat me to it. Dr. Pearl is all about the bottom line. “Is this costing us money, Gil? Then get out of here.”

  5. I agree with our commentators today concerning Gil vis-a-vis Dr. Pearl. If I’m reading her facial language correctly, she was in the middle of eating her KFC $5 Bucket lunch on the run so she could make her next staff meeting on time when Gil walked in unannounced. She had just downed her chicken breast and was about to dip her spork into the micro-tub of mashed potatoes with gravy.
“Well, that’s nice, Gil, you had me worried, I thought we might have Norman Bates for a pitcher. BTW, you want this biscuit? I can’t eat another bite. Here’s a couple of Land O’Lakes butters if you need ’em.”

  6. Maybe I;m in the minority here, but c’mon, we’re talking to people on one side of the story and saying “Case Closed”? Abusers and their enablers always deny, and the accusers end up on the short end of the old he-said, she-said. It’s the kind of thing that keeps the majority of victims from even bothering to report.

If this is all there is to the plot — a summary judgment in favor of the male star athlete — then I’m severely disappointed in Rubin’s handling of female characters for the second consecutive spring.

  7. […] to today – with a lot of gaps to fill. Is it clear that Gil spoke with Ryan at his home? (The “genuinely remorseful” comment to Dr. Pearl might lead us to believe he did.) Whether he did or didn’t, what […]
