This Week in Milford

Lo siento, no lo siento

Okay, so Gil’s not meeting Marty at his crate shack but on neutral ground. Dunno why Gil acts so surprised: he knows Marty’s a known souse and it’s not like Gil doesn’t knock back a few every now and then, in public, even. Marty’s got his Captain Haddock brows working again and, yeah, he wants Gil to clean up his mess.

That weak-assed excuse for a mea culpa doesn’t fly anymore, if it ever did. Everyone and her brother knows that “I’m sorry you were offended by my actions” is not the same as “I’m sorry for my actions.”  There’s a few dots here that haven’t been connected – like how Marty thinks all of this is the Padillas’ doing – but hey, baseball season is a week old so let’s wrap this thing up, shall we?

Now I guess we just sit back and wait to see what level of public apology from Marty will suffice. An appearance with Pirate Nebbish Boy from MPN seems more than likely.

  1. Gildo:”Why don’t you apologize?”
Marty:”I did…..I took out a full page ad in every newspaper in the tri-state area. Unfortunately none of these kids has ever read a newspaper”
Gildo:”I can see how that would be a problem”
Marty:”Then I wrote each and every student a 3 page letter explaining my actions and begging forgiveness..”
Gildo:”Well, that should have done the trick”
Marty;”It probably would have if I hadn’t written it in cursive. I think they thought it was a foreign language”
    Gildo:”Well….I can’t help you Sundance…..”

  2. I am inferring that the mighty WDIG either doesn’t have or is currently not staffed with anyone remotely familiar with PR, communications or marketing for that matter.

Regardless, Marty better watch his back. That sales guy is not going to forget Marty’s role in blowing that deal. Do not get between a dog and his bone, Marty.

  3. As I recall, Marty complained to Jorge that Jorge’s sister had “thrown him under the bus.” Jorge rejected this explanation, but I don’t recall Marty’s attempting any reconciliation with Paloma, just abusive remarks made while on duty. Aside from a retort about being “thin skinned” a few weeks ago, Marty hasn’t even spoken to Paloma since. His abuse has instead been directed at Karina the cartoon figure of this cartoon, Duncan. Marteen has a few more steps to take beyond an apparently limping email. A typical bulls-eye from teenchy on the matter of there being a big difference between “I’m sorry if anyone was offended” and “I was wrong and I apologize.”

  4. Lord knows sports radio stations have plenty of experience dealing with men who offend the human half of their audiences. It’ll work out. What’s been bugging me all week is the blue ring around Marty’s head. Go to the color version. It’s been the same bright blue, in the same place every day. No way can this just be a lighting trick. As far as I can tell, there’s no fashion trend. Maybe it’s symbolic, from the blue ring around the moon in eclipse photos?

  5. As I mentioned last week , in defense of Marty he did ask Jorge about pronunciation of his name and Jorge only said I hope coach calls it to get him in the game. Marty’s still a pud but parrot boy worse. School administrators would’ve put end to Dunc’s behavior pronto. And wasn’t he doing some of this on road games? No opposing teams linebacker in the stands stuffed him in a garage can?! Ok.

  6. Whoa, isn’t that Darrin Stephens and Larry Tate walking through the doors of Milford Lounge? Maybe they can throw their 2 bits worth on this discussion before they discuss that new ad campaign for Milford Fitness Gym. After a couple of martinis, naturally.
The waitress is no help here. She’s too busy watching CNN and returning coffee mugs back on the rack. They must have closed the teetotaling section down for the night.

  8. Ned, …who’s MIA while Marty is SOL about to get a DUI if he drives his SUV(saw “Good Morning, Vietnam” too, Big Guy-ha ha). Good one, Ned.
