Born of a Theory

Oohwee, I don’t know about y’all but all that coaching had me dizzy! It about gave me the vapors. Thank goodness we’re back to some of the kind of stuff this strip does best: name-drop and set up boring cliffhangers.

There are a whole bunch of Jay Bhatias out there. Not sure which one this will be, but given Dafne’s secret thoughts about the fate of Del Bader, maybe this Jay Bhatia will have some influence over that. Is he Del’s parole officer? A new member of the Bader family legal team? Or just another meddling Milford kid with nothing better to do than open a previously sealed can of worms?

I’d bet Ms. Stratego Rizk will have a theory about how all this will play out. And I’d bet Casper Heenan or Hobart would be interested in that budget story.

  1. While we’re all waiting for Jay Bhatia to get here, I’ll just point out that the reporter’s job is to make that budget story interesting, not to toss it aside.

  2. Color me surprised that Rubin has remembered and decided to use Chris Rizk again. The fact that Dafne and Pelwecki have the same haircut is gonna continue to bother me, though.

  3. School district budgets aren’t newsworthy and/or interesting these days? To a teacher and a high school student? WTF?

Color me surprised that Rubin has managed to come across as more tone deaf regarding public education funding issues (and the associated strikes across the nation) than he did with the tragedy of Puerto Rico.

  4. Whoa, Nelly, let me see if I’m getting this straight. Ms. Rizk has to arm twist the Sultan of Sleaze, the same Sultan who damn near ruined a Mudlark pitcher’s career last year, to report anything INTERESTING? Since when did Daffy Duck get demoted from the Milford Enquirer to Mudlark Statistical Abstract?
While they’re ironing this one out(never thought I’d see this coming), I’ll just pull up a chair and watch MTV on the computer. I understand “The Cars: From the Pubs of Boston to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” is scheduled to come on today. Nope, they’re showing Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life” video. I knew it wasn’t The Cars when I saw those Ostriches beelining over the Mudlark football practice fields. Careful around the tennis nets, ostriches.
    Anyway, maybe later.

  5. timbuys, here in Louisville KY school board issues are front page news…

  6. So, tdrew, are you watching The Cars because you saw that Paulina Porizkova is single?
Dafne & Pelwecki even have the same insouciant ear gap in their hair. Porizkova either wears her hair over her ears or behind them, as GOD intended.

  7. Good one, downpuppy. But unfortunately, with my track record with women, well, let’s just say that you saw in the basketball season that they not only didn’t make the Playdowns, the plot didn’t even bother to MENTION that they didn’t make the Playdowns. Kinda the Story of my Life(ha ha).
And teenchy, as long as we’re name-dropping people that we have NO CLUE about, let me proffer my take, he’s friends of Richard Cory, y’know, the fellow mentioned in a poem by Edwin Arlington Robinson. Simon & Garfunkel wrote a song about the same poem later in the ’60’s? We all saw what happened.
Then again, what a way to expedite the plot by June. And we owe it all to Jay Bhatia-Richard Cory.

  8. Like my hero Gil, I’m going to take some time off from Rock n Roll Thursday . Too much going on when the weather breaks. Some of the stuff I post comes off the top of my head while some facts I need to research a little to do it right. Or at least attempt to do it right. I may at least post some bands I like that will be touring in Chicago area. I think some other posters live near Chicago right?
I would like to comment on the Rock n Roll of fame inductees that Tdrew mentioned. I’ve been there, maybe around 2010 and I would recommend going. I would have thought the Moody Blues and the Cars were already in. I’m not a fan of the Moody Blues but agree they belong. I do like the Cars and glad they’re in. But Bon Jovi ?! I can’t stand them and the Hall is a lesser place with them being there. But I understand how it works and figured they were already in also. As always, ROCK ON!!!

  9. Looks like we have a south Asian student about to enter the story. First one I can remember since that dreary gymnastics story with the Thorp kids about twenty years ago.

  10. Jive Turkey, I LOVE your Thursday installments. I think you make some shrewd and timely choices and I check out every one of them.
But I understand the need for time off. Just whenever you plug the amp back in, I’ll be waiting. I like the things you say.
And I like your opinions on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They’re what make a better store and I appreciate your honesty.
I think the head-scratcher, in my opinion, had to be Dire Straits. They won several Grammys and MTV Awards while being WELL WITHIN the Parameters of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Arguably of the 4 groups I mentioned, Dire Straits was able to reach a cross-section audience of different styles of Rock, Mark Knopfler hittin’ hard with that Dylanesque voice of his. And let’s face it, the man could play guitar to boot. A duet with Chet Atkins on an album will back me on that one. Songs like “Sultans of Swing”, “Money for Nothing”, “Walk of Life”, “So Far Away”, etc., really rocked and if I DID go Back to the Future, I’ll bet those songs might wind up, ’50’s-style though they may be, on a jukebox at the teenage burger joint.
But in the end, you’re right, My Man. I like your take on the HOF in general. About the truth(ha). Jive Turkey, keep up the good comments. You da Man.

  11. Thanks Tdrew. I’ll have to look into who is actually in the Hall and who are the glaring omissions. When you posted that last week I looked up an article that was gushing of course over the inductees. But as I read some readers comments, one person mentioned some worthy artists that aren’t in: Dick Dale and Link Wray. And if I were them I wouldn’t want in at this point. I mean, it’s rock n Roll! Rebellion! If you don’t want me in, screw you. And we all know what Groucho Marx said about clubs, right?

  12. […] Danfe and Bestie Who Looks Like An Extra From Room 222 (not to say that Dafne herself doesn’t look the same from time to time). Dafne and Barry are a bit closer in height than they were […]
