A Who Friday

Its a metapost today as I honor the Cubs newest millionaire with a classic from Roger Daltry and company. Feel free to comment on the actual strip while youre singing.

Yu Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

Yu Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

He walked into the Cubs clubhouse with a speaker from Japan.

He said Theo would pay him several million for the batters to walk away

But all the hitters said his fastball was so straight it wouldnt bend

And the  fans were throwing back every pitch that ever left his hand.

Well who are Yu? Darvish.

Yu Yu Yu Yu.

I really wanna know Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu.

Tell me who are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu.

Cause I really wanna know Yu? Darvish.

Yu Yu Yu Yu.

He took the bus back out of town

Back to the Iowa pen.

He felt a little like a circus clown

with an interpreter speakin.

He stretched back and he pitched up

And looked back at the ball in play.

Eleven runs on the green board

God why ain’t I still in LA???

Well who are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

Oh, who are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

Come on tell me who are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

Alright, who the fuck are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

He knows there’s an ivy wall

Where balls fall from the trees.

His heart is like a broken bat

His ERA is in the teens.

He crawls into a sewer hole

And still receives the boos.

How can he measure up to Twenty Sixteen

When all he does is lose???

Well who are Yu? Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

I really wanna know Yu Darvish

Yu Yu Yu Yu

I really wanna know

Oh I really wanna know

Come on tell me who are Yu Yu Yu AAHHHHHH YU!!!

  1. “just a lowly reporter…”

It’s a SCHOOL NEWSPAPER, everyone is “lowly”.

  2. Marshall Crenshaw began his musical career by way of a detour? Running laps ad infinitum around the track(where he stops, NOBODY knowwwwwsssss) as a lowly reporter for a duct-tape-operated high school newspaper????
If nothing else, I thought the song was AWESOME, robmize. The lyrics and patterns were stunningly similar. You got this Hooligan going, My Man.

  3. Darvish has had a long, good, career. He went 93-38 as a Ham Fighter starting at 18.
Being 31 & done is pretty normal for a pitcher. At least the Cubs didn’t blow Dice-K money on him.

Hitting a baseball & thick glasses don’t really go together, do they?

  8. Ah yes, the good old Trumpet — AKA the National Enquirer/TASS/Sputnik/Intercept/Russia Today/InfoWars/Al-Jazeera/Pravda/Daily Mail of high school papers…

They aren’t about to spy on one of their students and invade his private life just to publish an overcooked, sleazy, sensationalized series of slanted semi-truths, are they?? But of course they are, since Milford has been transplanted to Communist Romania and if your aren’t ratting out your neighbor/classmate, you’d damn well better be spying on them!

So the Trumpet publishes some salacious bullshit based on a half-heard eavesdropped conversation, as the situation compounds Barry goes back to trying to fight everyone in the locker room every day before and after practice with no intervention from Gilberto/Kaz whatsoever, the situation will magically resolve itself around September 5 on the eve of football season, and NOBODY WILL FACE AN IOTA OF ACCOUNTABILITY OR CONSEQUENCE FOR THEIR ACTIONS WHATSOEVER…

There, I’ve just saved you an entire summer of reading…

  9. Hitorque: You have saved us at least until mid-June, at which point we will get hit by another asinine story that involves JaQaun Case-Heather Belichek-Moose Pelwicki and who knows who else

  10. Jive Turkey: You are absolutely right. This douche looks like that jerk-off butt pirate radio kid, except with glasses

  11. Well I could never hit & preferred to blame bad eyesight rather than poor reflexes, weak wrists, lack of practice & minimal depth perception. Anyhow, I’m going out on a limb & guess Jay Bhatia has an OPS under 1.000. Because them’s the odds. Being able to see spin like Boggs has to be a reason he was better than Sabo.

  13. I saw Marshall Crenshaw solo at the Continental Club in Houston (not the one in Austin). He was great and his eponymous album is pure pop rock magic.

  14. I saw Marshall live at War Memorial Hall in Athens, GA. Small room, big sound.

  15. I was riding off into the sunset but timbuys and teenchy, you twisted my arm to hang around(ha ha).
Seriously, thanks for sharing your posts on a VERY underrated musician, one who I felt never got the musical justice he deserved. You both made excellent choices on the videos. “Someday Someway” is a killer, but teenchy, you can’t go wrong with your selection either. And I like your sharing your concert experiences with us. Some interesting stuff.
Me, I’m partial to “Life’s Too Short” and “Mary Jean and 9 Others”, 2 excellent albums, in my opinion. “Terrifying Love” off of “Downtown” is my calling card but that’s me talking.
Anyway, you guys rule the day. Glad people notice and DEFINITELY appreciate an electrifying talent.

  16. Here’s a neat article about Marshall’s brother and one time bandmate. Just a nice story.
