This Week in Milford

Less Thinking, More Action!

gt11282018

At Joe Bolek’s house –

“Okay guys, here comes the world

Premiere!” Almost haiku

Speaking of the world:

In Milford, five guys is not

A chain burger joint

Bolek’s screening room

Should rotate ninety degrees

Screen too close to seats

Shape shifting Bolek

Man of a thousand faces

Today looks like Biden

Give Joe some credit:

He knows YouTube watchers have

Short attention spans

But Tiki gets it

The footage needs to be raw

Like those punks’ knuckles

Clark kept shooting to

Erase pain of Milford life

Oh, wait, just video

Who else missing point?

Rubin. This is a sports strip

Not Scooby-Doo

It’s meddling you want?

Try to replace Karen Moy

Write for Mary Worth

  1. I don’t think Rubin knows how YouTube works.

Also, Punter Joe Bolek sure does have one schweet boycave. His parents must be loaded. And/or terribly permissive.

  3. I agree with Tiki in P3. I’m thinking I’m missing the point. Also, three minutes of what exactly? That’s an awful lot of time passing in real life if that’s what they edited it down to.

  4. How come Ruffin now has full head of hair yet only had a Mohawk cut when this thing started?

  5. franku2016, that appears to be Leonard in Panel 2.

  6. As The Chief depicted it, I would say more like ten seconds between the time Tiki gets shoved and they peel out. Of course there could be 2:50 worth of Tiki standing by himself with the crowd gathering unnoticed behind him like the crows on the jungle gym in The Birds. Whatever the actual duration, timbuys is on the money– three minutes is a large multiple of the time a two camera scene like that would take.

  7. @nedryerson…my bad…I forgot how they regurgitate artwork by changing stuff like hairstyles and clothes on character to make a completely ‘different’ character

  8. No sweat, @franku2016. We only learned Leonard’s name on Monday. Prior to that he was just one of Joe Bolek’s two film friends.

Conveniently, the two African American characters we now have playing roles in this “plot” have unique hairstyles so as to avoid confusion. Andre Ruffin has the Mohawk and Leonard has a full head of hair. (I think I just like talking about Leonard!…..Leonard!)

  9. Leonard!

  10. That’s the spirit, billy!

    Leonard lives!!

  11. Is it really Leonard as is traditionally pronounced? Look at the spelling carefully. Usually, I think apostrophes in names are unnecessary. But here it might come in handy. I want his name to be pronounced Leon- ard. Like Leon Lett with and ard at the end. This is where an apostrophe would come into play. Leon’ard. I like that.

  12. What movie poster are we looking at over Joe’s shoulder? The Pod People?

    Dorks on Film

  13. On the left you have the extremely rare, highly collectible The Odd Couple poster with its infamous typo. People will pay a lot of money for that kinda stuff. As Skip, the eccentric guitar store owner once replied to me when I asked him if a guitar was collectible, ‘some people collect string’.

  14. Obviously, these guys don’t have to worry about stuff like girlfriends taking up their time.

    Comment by franku2016 — November 29, 2018 @ 10:24 am

  15. ned@12: The poster on the right is loosely based on the one for 2001: A Space Odyssey. At left? At first I thought E.T., not so sure now.

    Comment by teenchy — November 29, 2018 @ 12:35 pm

  16. teenchy, I think you’re right about E.T. I just couldn’t make the connection with the lo-fi reproduction of the poster.

But what of the lettering OD LE? I think I have an answer.

As I joked earlier, maybe the poster was for “The Pod People”.

But what the heck is The Pod People? The Pod People was a Spanish horror film repurposed and rebranded as LOS NUEVOS EXTRATERRESTRES to cash in on the popularity of E.T.

You probably never heard of LOS NUEVOS EXTRATERRESTRES or The Pod People because it’s a horrible movie….unless you saw the film shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000. (If you did, you might remember that this film was the source of one of Mystery Science Theater’s longest running meta-gags: “It stinks!”…which popped up again in the 2nd season of Mystery Science Theater episodes that just came out last week.)

We’ve noted here that Whigham likes to use MST3K on license plates. Is it possible he’s alluding to The Pod People on an E.T. poster as an obscure reference for “MSTies”? Who knows. It’s as plausible as whatever is actually supposed to be happening in the strip.
