Gil Is Parched!

The surprise of the visit from Jaquan Case and Former Point Guard (is this really relevant?) Hadley V. Baxendale has surely dissipated  now. It is now in the Gil sees an opportunity to leave the junior golfers to their own devices while he slips over to have a few beverages at the club phase.

The conversation shows that Jaquan is not quite sure what lawyering is and what his fiancée does. As they work out the dissonance in their relationship, Gil enjoys his long island iced tea and tries not to think about what kind of mayhem Kylie & Co. are getting into. The smart money says the junior golfers are teeing up snow cones smashing them with drivers.

  1. Gil is visibly shrinking, presumably from the realization that one of his former nemeses is now doing way, way, waaaaaay better in life than he could possibly hope to.

  2. I think “former point guard” is a call back to the first strip Hadley was in, where she introduced herself to Mimi and stated “I’m your point guard!”

Speaking of Mimi, where is she? She coached Hadley, not Gil. Gil also didn’t coach Jaquan, but whatever…

  3. Tune in tomorrow when Hadley tells us she’s a lawyer in Chicago and fakes modesty. Again.

  4. “Kick back in Milford”, my ass….”look for a job in Milford” is probably more like it, and wasn’t HvB kind of a shitty point guard too, not fast, quick, or multi-dimensional but more like the opposite of those things?

  5. Hadley was a fine point guard, but not a star. As a junior she started for a team that went 23-2 and only lost in the state quarterfinals when Council Rock made a last second 3/4-court shot. In fact, Hadley made the go ahead basket in that game before the Council Rock’s lucky heave. Still, Shayla Madden and Debbie Roy were probably the more important pieces on that team. When she was a senior, Hadley’s Lady Mudlarks lost Madden and Roy and could do no better than 3-6 (in depicted games) as opponents controlled the lane against the short Kenya Beale and waifish Lisa Wyche.

Hadley’s biggest weakness as a player was her tendency to get distracted by her off-court quest to get people to pay attention to the girl’s basketball team. This both resulted in the occasional distracted underperformance on the court and rubbed some teammates the wrong way off the court. Kenya Beale, in particular, didn’t care for what she saw as hucksterism as Hadley tried craft an underdog narrative to garner media coverage for the undersized 05-06 team.

  6. Like it or not, Hadley v Baxendale was one of the healthiest and most engaging girl characters in the history– to date– of GT. I for one am glad to see her back, and hope that Whigrub does not manage to stain those recollections.
