Sympathy for the Waning Moon

Time for the annual f-t-f pissing match between Gil and Marty. Marty asks a legit question of Gil and gets a pissy backhanded insult in return. Sure, Gil wins this one on paper, but come game time he might be singing a different tune.

Marty is absolutely not wrong in putting this question to Gil. Thorp started running his Delaware Wing-T again last season, and is still running it this season. He’s surprising exactly nobody with it. There are a plethora of YouTube videos on how to defend against the Wing-T, many of them quite lengthy. Here’s one of the briefest for your perusal.

A team that is regularly exposed to a Wing-T offense (as Kettering supposedly has been) will be better prepared to defend against it, even if it is “a little different,” as Gil claims. In this case “a little different” looks like it’ll translate into “a passing game where our receivers don’t look the ball into their hands.”

Kettering was a Detroit high school in a very tough neighborhood. It was closed about ten years ago due to declining attendance, a crumbling physical plant, low academic performance, and gang activity. The former Kettering site, first re-imagined as an urban farm, is now going to become a manufacturing plant for an auto parts supplier. As a shout-out to a Detroit long past, how will Rubin reimagine the Kettering team? Urban tough guys or something else?

In the grander scheme of things, we can see Marty becoming ever more irrelevant on the Mudlark sports reporting scene. Heather’s quick thumbs can spew out tweets as fast as he can call play-by-play, providing the analysis in real time that he might otherwise have to do between snaps. Having also been Gil’s protégé, Heather has the inside line to locker room scoops that Marty never will. Since he’s lost the journalistic high ground, Marty should have free reign to wallow deeper in the Milford mud. He can begin on Friday night into Saturday morning once Kettering has shut down Gil’s predictable old-school offense.

  1. Rubin has turned Marty into quite the candy ass pud the last few years. The old Marty would not put up with Gil’s crap. Truly disappointing. Gil’s too fucking dumb to be this lamely quick witted as he slinks away like the snake oil salesman he is.

  2. Agree, JT….Gil might as well be telling MM to “fuck himself”…the old Gil would never be so quick-witted and the old Marty would never just stand there letting it go like some sort of stuttering jag-off holding a voice recorder. I wonder if coach would be such a rude prick to Heather? …probably not, since she increasingly treats him like dog-shit residue on her shoe. I hope Kettering knocks Tevin’s, Macy’s, and Spiller’s (especially Spiller…he’s a little bitch) dicks in the dirt just to show Gil that his big-shit Delaware Wing-T is not some sort of top-secret thing that can’t be figured out like it’s fuckin Buddy Ryan’s 46 defense from 1985 or something. Someone should probably clue Gil in that they make video cameras now and that Kettering probably has a video of MHS’s last game too.

  3. 1. As always, Gilberto is a world-class douche who thinks his ass weighs a ton

    2. And motherfuck Gilberto for making me come to the defense of boorish drunken racist idiot asshole like Martinez Luna…

    3. So is Gilberto saying that Luna NEVER asks him decent questions, or is he saying Luna actually asked him a good question for once and that was why he didn’t have a good response??

    4. It’s funny because Luna’s question is just as lazy and uninspired as anything Heather Brokaw spews, but I guess Heather gets a pass because she’s easy on the eyes with that cute face and those perky pierced nipples that point upward and that ass and she doesn’t reek of gas station cigarillos and Captain Morgan?

    5. Despite their differences, for the life of me I can’t figure out why Gilberto and Luna don’t have a much more amicable partnership… Doesn’t Gilberto realize that Luna’s continuous radio coverage all these years has done more to spread the Mudlarks brand and bolster Gilberto’s reputation as a hero and a winner? I mean, the radio station hasn’t gone out of business which means not only do at least some people listen to him on the air, at least some of them like and appreciate his Mudlarks content. One radio broadcast from Luna is worth two weeks of ball-gargling articles over at the Milford Times-Chronicle-Union-Leader-Post-Gazette-Journal…

    6. Did Motormouth Vic Doucette graduate? You’d think he’d be a natural fit as an obnoxious PA announcer for football…

    7. Does Milford not have practice jerseys?

  4. I went to college with some people from Kettering. It’s a well off south suburb of Dayton, with a pretty good high school, Kettering Fairmont.
Even for Gil, this was a serious dick move.

  5. Gil is quite the ass today. Yeah, nobody likes Marty, but he did ask a good question. On the other hand, GIl’s answer seemed fine to me, and Marty was an ass for dismissing it before Gil was an ass with his response.

  6. As far as Vic, not sure if he graduated, but we never saw him again after his prom dates were set up. I don’t think he survived the eightsome he had after the dance.

  7. In fairness to Gil, Marty essentially asked a yes-or-no and got quite a bit more than a single word. I do miss genuinely antagonizing Marty. Gil probably does too, because the old Marty Moon’s wild criticisms allowed Gil to frame any of his detractors as fringe crazies who got their opinion of him from Moon’s radio show.
