It’s Really Impolite To Point With A Crutch

I guess the essential question is: Is Boyd Spiller a charlatan or is everybody else just stupid? (I mean, he does possess a special penlight.)

Here, Kianna, who can’t be that stupid, is still trying to rationalize her decision to rely on a party trick to keep her alert in lieu of getting the proper amount of sleep. She looks to Tevin who, amazingly, did not “choke” in the late stages of a game. But, we know that for this whole plot, Tevin’s just been humoring Spiller. He’s shrugged off all of Boyd’s initial choke talk and then agreed to the stupid hypnotism, but it never appeared that he bought into any of it. Tevin forgot though that in this land of peacocks and tat slapping, the populace is easily entranced by superstition and magical thinking in place of common sense.

So it’s up to Tevin, the school’s only sceptic, to deliver a sermon to the cafeteria warning the people not to listen to pundits peddling YouTube theories. He should also just request that Boyd Spiller just shut up in general.

  1. LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: ALL THIS SHIT IS SOMEHOW SPILLER’S FAULT NOW?!

Say what you will about Boyd Spiller, aka “The King of Madden ’22″… But he never seriously pretended to be something he wasn’t, he never claimed to be a professional, he never charged actual money for his “services” so I can’t even say “Caveat Emptor” in this situation, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL HE TOLD EVERYONE UP FRONT THAT HIS “TRAINING” CAME FROM A COUPLE OF RANDOM YOUTUBE VIDEOS!!

These kids are some goddamned idiots…

  2. Wait… Is Tevin standing *ON* a lunch table? What an asshole…

  3. Yes, Hitorque, he’s on a lunch table but he thinks it’s a soapbox. Like I said earlier, Tevin should’ve showed a little rage and shoved this guy into a locker back in August with the promise of “…if you ever say anything like that again, you will wish that you hadn’t…bitch…”. Sometimes, bein’ nice and ignoring your protagonist is not an option. Of course, then, we would not have had a “story”.

  4. So Tevin is gonna get grief for enabling Spiller, right? Right?

Teenagers do stupid stuff like this on the regular. OK, maybe not like this, but they do indeed do stupid stuff on the regular. I certainly did at that age. Realistic =/= entertaining, necessarily, Rubin… especially when your drama hinges on a high school hypnotist.

  5. P 4 (as thrown food pelts Tevin): “…shut the fuck up!….”

  6. Is it normal to bring text books to lunch as Spiller does or is he displaying a hypnosis book for cafeteria cred?

  7. In answer to your essential question…why can’t it be both?

And yeah, get the hell off the table, kid! I work hard shining everything and you’re up there scuffing it up? And where the hell are the lunchroom monitors? Probably off drinking in the Teacher’s Lounge.

  8. JT, the table Spiller’s sitting at looks like it’s tilted towards him, like a drafting table. Why isn’t the food next to his books sliding off into his lap, then? Methinks the Chief screwed the pooch on perspective here.

  9. You’re right, mopman. It usually takes a population of (willing) idiots to enable a conman.
