The year ends but this game doesnt

Filed under: actual action, basketball, Gil Thorp — robmize2013 @ 9:02 pm

Its just so Gil Thorp to take parts of 2 years to play 1 game. They drag things out more then a college basketball game in the last 2 minutes. At least its sports and not some dumb side story.

To make a long story short, I had planned many months ago to go on an expedition to Antarctica, and 11 days before we were to leave, it was cancelled due to several crew members testing positive for Covid. I wanted to go Somewhere for a week, and chose Fort Lauderdale where I played golf and went to 2 beaches enjoying the warm temps. Thanks to teenchy and Ned for filling in while I sporadically followed the proceedings.

I dont remember who all these guys are yet but I know Gabe isnt exactly being smothered inside. 1 guy behind him is flexing his muscles with his arms down and the other guy to his side is similarly unthreatening. Basic defense means Hands Up and Gabe has a ton of room to try a hook shot if he so desires, or even fake and drive into either guy drawing a foul. The strategy Gil calls for is fine, but “let Pranit win the game for us” doesnt allow for a tying 2-point basket from anyone, assuming its either Gabe shoving one in from close, or ONLY a 3-pointer from the outside; (what if the guard is closely guarded?) and how does Gil know All Saints wont call timeout and get another play in before time runs out? Pretty limiting strategy IMO.

But we have to wait til next year to find out. Hope you all have a safe a happy New Year 2022. The future is unknown as always but we’ll be along for the ride with Gil and company. Hard to believe I’ve been doing this for 8 years now, and we all sure now have a body of written work to fall back on whenever we have the urge to peek at our past scribblings. Jason left this blog in good hands when he retired in 2013 thats for sure.

Happy New Year 2022: Amid Omicron, Celebrations In India And Across The World Likely To Be Muted

  1. All of sudden we are to believe Pranit is Andrew Toney. I just thought he was a scrawny fantasy football guru. Who’s dumber, Gil, Rubin, Jeffro Bodine or Junior Samples? I’ll hang up and listen for my answer.

  2. Happy New Year TWiM!

Yeah, the whole implication at the start was that Pranit can’t play, and definitely isn’t a starter. Did he even play up until now, and Gil inserts him into the lineup to win the game? Well, he either hits it or bricks it, I can’t decide which. There won’t be overtime. I say he misses so that it starts or adds to the “conflict”. Somehow this ties into his fantasy addiction, I guess.

  3. Rob, Congratulations on 8 years. I always enjoy reading your posts. They’re hard-hitting and funny. I look forward to more of your good stuff. And welcome back from vacation, My Man.

Good call on Andrew Toney, Jive Turkey. He wasn’t called The Boston Strangler for nothing. He just ruined the Celtics, especially in the Playoffs several times.

And Andrew Toney, Pranit isn’t. He ain’t even Andy Rooney.

Happy New Year, TWIM readers. God bless you all.

  4. Sorry to hear about the cancellation of your trip, Rob. Antarctica is definitely a bucket list kind of place and I hope you get the opportunity to travel there again. Mrs. teenchy’s brother was stationed at the South Pole for six months on a research assignment some years ago. He sent us a video which was basically him stepping out of their station and doing a 360 showing nothing but white as far as the eye could see.

    Today’s post coming directly.
