This Week in Milford

June 10, 2022

Hey Blue are you blind?? No, your pitcher is.

All the umpires in history who’ve had to put up with various themes on the taunts they receive from fans about being blind have to love this strip, where the ump finally gets his revenge! This time its the pitcher who is blind. And the ump calls him out on it, and damn it, he’s right.

Yeah Gil no rule says Blue HAS to toss your man from the game, but guess what smartypants. The ump is in charge of the game, not you. He can remove anyone from the game that he believes is a safety hazard to the other players. And if you cant figure that out by now you’re a moron. He can eject fans too. How many years have you been coaching and not know that? I coached baseball for 5 years and had several arguments with the blue man group. But I never crossed the line. If an ump told me my player couldnt see, by god I’d have him out ASAP. Not Gildo.

My catcher once got tossed for accidently bumping the ump walking off the field after an inning late in a road game, and the players mom went berserk, understandably. I thought Blue was gonna run her as well, and he had a right to. I found out I had no catcher after I heard her screaming at him. (We lost the game in the next half inning anyway so I didnt need to replace my only catcher. But it was still a BS call.)

And what is Gils insistence on PLAYING this guy anyway?? Jesus, put someone else in already! Dont you have 4 other pitchers at least?? I’m starting to think Gil is in cahoots with Mr. Hamm, secretly giving Gregg more PT to help some unknown cause that we dont even have privy to yet.

Because this makes less sense every day. Thank god the ump sees right through this charade. Throw em all out Blue!!

Oh yeah, Heather is transcribing the action. Whats her take on this?

  1. Hopefully Heather will get it out there about this idiotic insistence on everyone to play this clown, including Skippy, tennis britches, the catcher, coach meat, Gregg’s parents, etc. If I was another pitcher on this team, I would be pissed as fuck at all the extra special ass kissin that this kid gets. And seriously? Gil sits in the dugout all season, not sayin shit, and THIS is when he decides to challenge an ump? I hope that ump tosses Gil, Gregg, AND Scooter, just because he can. When Scooter sez “me? What did I do?” The ump can say “ you’re just an annoying little pipsqueak and that’s all the reason I need”.

  2. Gil really messed up big time. If only he would have saved that permission slip from Gergg’s eye doctor, he could have showed that to the ump and the ump would have said, “Oh, okay, carry on!”

  3. I’m glad Gil is finally showing some stones. This kid hasn’t hit anyone all year as far as I know. But since he’s showing some stones and Heather is curiously lurking, something tells me Gil is up to something and will show his pud side. But for now, I like this side of Gil. Certainly better than I like dumb ass T LaRussa for intentionally walking a dude with a 1-2 count. Max Muncy hitting a HR is just desserts for that cock knocker!

  4. Yeah JT. Larussa is funny sometimes. Last season, he went berserk once talking about “ unwritten rules” but ignored actual written rules about substituting pinch runners for pitchers who get on base. Go on with your bad self Tony.

  5. Right frank. I would think not intentionally walking a guy 1-2 would qualify as unwritten. Or SOMETHING!
I think the incident you’re referring to was Yermin Mercedes having the “gall” to crank a HR off a position player on a 3-0 count in garbage time. Screw that! I think position players pitching should be a no no unwritten rule. Tony disciplined Mercedes and I think that messed with his mojo as he was tearing the cover off the ball. He wasn’t the same after that. Granted the pitchers adjusted to him and he failed to adjust back, but his manager didn’t have his back at all.

  6. I agree JT. To call that guy out in public was bullshit. How about that unwritten rule Tony?

  7. 1. Culture Club!! One of my favorite childhood songs…

1a. If y’all haven’t seen that new Top Gun movie, it’s live AF…

    2. I’ll keep on saying this until Rubin gets it: BASEBALL DOESN’T WORK THIS WAY!!

2a. SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT — Hammm throws every 4th or 5th pitch in the dirt or over the backstop or bean the on-deck circle batter, Ben Christensen style? (Although Christensen was 100% intentional) and then he throws three perfect fastballs right down the pipe that opposing batters are too afraid to swing at or bunt because reasons?? Wouldn’t even a bad high school team catch on to this stupidly predictable pattern sooner or later??

2b. Rubin needs to stop moving the goalposts… Either Hammm is too fucking blind to see the plate and the catcher’s mitt or he isn’t… Either he can field balls in play (and make an accurate throw to first base) or he can’t… Either Gregg’s stuff is good enough to get batters out without gimmicks or it isn’t… Either Grrgg is wild enough that he’s walking every other batter and giving the opposing team free runs on wild pitches and throwing errors or he isn’t…

    3. Heather Cronkite does nothing but worship at the altar of St. Gilberto, so we already know her story angle will praise Gilberto’s “bravery for standing up for the human rights of special needs players” or some insufferable bullshittery…

    4. “BUT HURR DURR HE HASN’T HIT ANYBODY YET!!” What, is the umpire supposed to wait until Greggg DOES hit somebody? For fuck’s sake he’s throwing FOUR FEET OUT OF THE STRIKE ZONE! The umpire should have run them both just on principle…

    5. I’m most disappointed in the rest of the Mudlarks… I refuse to believe none of them have approached Gilberto and asked him directly if continuing to start Grrgg gives them the best chance to win… And don’t tell me Gilberto couldn’t just snatch the best JV pitcher for a couple of starts if he’s short on arms…

  8. Rob, You’re bringing back the memories. I haven’t been called Blue after all the years of City League umpiring in God knows when. Good title. And good stuff today.
And I totally agree with you, Gil not only doesn’t show up when he’s supposed to but when he does show up, he bosses around umpires? Whoa Nelly. As Frank mentioned, Thorpiverse evidently hasn’t been at too many Youth League games where the tail never wags the dog. But in Milford, Gil is God and he can make any rules he wants. He’s pretty much writing his own rules clinic here. When he shows up, that is.

  9. And where’s the other coach?

  10. Apparently, “Take him out” means something different from ejected.
I certainly hope Gil takes Gregggggggggggg to the Red Lobster, not the Bucket.
