Dont shed a tear for me

Well folks I dont know if Im wantin to analyze this strip as its apparently about some issue that was covered 19 years ago; talk about recycled panels. well we’ve got recycled storylines as well. Hopefully next week we’ll be covering something like football, or maybe Gil will take up pickleball as I’ve heard all the old geysers are doing. In the meantime here’s an old classic from Paul Carrack that I used to listen to when I was working at the news agency on the midnight shift.

  1. Mel sings:
“Don’t cry for me Gil and Mimi!
    My baby will be immortal!
That’s all I’ve wanted! Not much to ask for!”

    Gil and Mimi sing:
    “We’ll keep our promise!
    We’ll keep our distance!
    We’ll keep our promise!!!!”

  2. It’s hard to believe that one person can kill a comic strip that’s been around this long. I’m quitting before Gildo announces that he’s decided to trans and Mimi identifies as a german shepard

  3. I’m baffled by most of this. Was it a misprint a couple days ago, or has Barajas retconned the whole Mel story? That they’re washing their laundry in front of the kids at the Bucket takes it to another level, where Dr. Pearl may need to give Gil a timeout.

  4. Wait a minute… one day, this bitch is all friendly and shit to Gil at oreintation “… meet Tobias…”, “… watch out for my Toby…”, etc, and now she’s tryin to rip him a new asshole in public? And at that shithole restaurant that every kid in the school hangs out nonetheless. Sounds like she’s the one who’s fucked up and not Gil

  5. “… I hope Gil Thorp has changed with the times.” Oh it has, it has.

  6. Yes, it was a misprint. It was supposed to have Gil saying he was talking her OUT of an abortion.

  7. I’m sorry to keep asking, but can someone please tell me or direct me to a 30-second recap of Melissa’s backstory??

  8. She was a student. Got pregnant. Boy wanted to stay with her and the baby but his parents were yanking him out of school and sending him elsewhere to keep them apart. Mel’s parents kicked her out, Gil and Mimi took her in to help her out. She wanted to get an abortion, Gil tried to talk her out of it. Eventually she decided to have the baby and then summer happened and then we never heard of Mel again until this summer, 15ish years later.
