Gang, again I am cutting it short to pay homage to a man who did a great job of keeping on the edge of our seats with his sports action for several decades. The day he died on March 14th, 1996, many fans were devastated because a great mind was laid to rest. Jack Berrill WAS Gil Thorp, with all due respect to the other writers and artists who have done a great job of keeping Milford going.
As I mentioned on Gil Thorp Go Comics, my mom and I made it a daily habit talking about what was going on in Gil’s world. I saw several people everywhere have something to say about the latest news in Milford and I must admit, it was a lot of fun along the way. My mom told me that people went online many times to “talk” to Gil. Berrill was a good sport and actually sent back some pretty darn good responses. Berrill understood.
In fact, whatever happened, good or bad, happy or sad, when you saw “Berrill” at the lower end (normally) of the strip, you knew we would see Milford for another day and another reason to fellowship.
I salute you, Jack Berrill.
Kudos to Henry Barajas for bringing this piece of history to our attention. You da Man.
10-4, Tdrew…Berrill was definitely the reason for the season, whether it be football, basketball, baseball, or summer golf. I have several “Best of Gil Thorp” books and pull them off the shelf to read occasionally. Thanks for the remembrance Henry.

Frank, Thank you for your great message. You are hard-hitting and I wouldn’t want you any other way but you also have the heart of a gigantic teddy bear and it showed today. May God bless you and your family now and forever. You da Man.

Teenchy, I will do your post this Saturday, unless anyone steps forward. I have no problem with it. Anyone else wants to do it, please let me know ahead of time. Otherwise, I’m suiting up to slay the Gil. I need to sharpen Excalibur anyway.

tdrew, Rob has already offered to post Saturday so I’d suggest you check in with him. Between the three of us, we’ll keep this ship afloat and in some or other direction.
On that note, today’s post coming directly.
