Sure, they’re gay! (As in “Happy”…What else would I mean?)

For the last month or so this comic has been like some poor schlub who’s lost at sea, floating on a door and hoping to get rescued. Most days are godawfully boring and uneventful…but occasionally a boat passes by, far along the horizon. The schlub waves furiously, hoping to be rescued…and then thinks they might just see him! He momentarily grows hopeful. Then of course, the boat drifts away out of sight. Back to the boredom and frustration as he dies a slow horrible death! Meanwhile, we’re all hoping this thing ends with a vicious shark attack.

So now it’s time to pay a requisite visit to the womens’ team. Sure, let’s focus on them for a total of maybe three panels all winter. Hadley V. Baxendale would be pretty pissed off at this lack of coverage, not to mention the shoddy uniforms.

But enough babble. You all have one thing you want to discuss today, and that’s the insanity of panel two! Now if you read this blog, you’re more than likely some sort of pervert and think it’s all just portraying something overtly sexual. Well, knock it off, ya pervs. It’s clear that they, um…have just gone out to celebrate by holding an all-women’s box social at the Bucket, while, uh, still in uniform? Er, ya that still sounds dirty. Maybe they’re just doing the cha-cha because they’re thrilled that the comic is finally paying them lip service for always being second banana. Crap. That sounds dirty too. I give up.

And finally, I’m not even gonna bother trying to care why Seja’s snoopy aunt is still keeping a 24 hour vigil on the Gregory household. Maybe ’cause that’s the window where she keeps her bong? I’m just praying the shark attack comes soon.

  1. So I see the Milford’s girl squad boasts the high-wattage star power of … Ethel Merman and Glynis Johns, the lady who played Mrs. Banks in Mary Poppins?

Also, it’s not so much the hugging but the jiggling that’s disturbing me.

  2. And what did Margo and Tommie have to do with winning the game?

    Comment by Satchel Paige — March 14, 2008 @ 9:46 am

  3. Not only the jiggling, but the facial expression of the girl on the right of panel 2. She seems to have suddenly discovered her latent attraction to women: “Wow! Boobies! This is a LOT better than hugging my boyfriend!”

Art quibble: If that basketball and Lisa Wyche are drawn to scale, then she’s more like 5’2″ than 6’2″. And hey, Frank II: I know you’re a short-timer, but at least give the other team the dignity of real uniforms.

  4. Notonly is Tommie’s facial expression in panel two disturbing, The fact that she’s grabbing Margo’s ass is even more disturbing.

Seja’s Aunt is on the phone with the Vice Squad concerning the brothel traffic at Curley Horse’ house. She’s angry at CurleyHorse’s rebuff of the other day when she hinted to him that she wanted him because he was “seventeen”.

I have to go lay down. The craziness of panel two has thoroughly exausted my brain.

  5. panel two obviously depicts the kind of scene Frank longs to draw over at Apt 3-G, but never had quite a good enough excuse o feature room of giddy lesbians. Thank God he can finally give in to his desires here, under the guise of a sprts-themed strip.

  6. Whatever is going on in panel 2, it ain’t holy.
Call me early, mother dear, for I’m to be Queen o’ the May!

    Comment by laura — March 14, 2008 @ 10:23 am

  7. Beg to differ — that’s NOT Margo’s ass Tommie’s grabbing in Panel 2 – it’s Margo’s
    grandma!

    Comment by Gil'sBarber — March 14, 2008 @ 10:24 am

  8. #1 El Santo — yep, they’re jiggling like that tofu turkey on “Everybody Loves Raymond”.

    Comment by Gil'sBarber — March 14, 2008 @ 10:29 am

  9. Wait- all y’all are disturbed by the girl-on-gril hugging, jiggling, and ass-grabbing?

    WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!!!!

These are all cause for gleeful celebration!!!

    Comment by tcm — March 14, 2008 @ 10:59 am

  10. It’s charming that the size of the girls’ basketball is only half the size of the beach ball that the boys’ team uses.

Lisa’s wrist may not have entirely healed despite the doctor “signing off” all over it; she’s wearing the novelty hand that Gil’s stand-ins use to read all of their most ridiculous excuses with.

    Comment by Striker — March 14, 2008 @ 11:18 am

  11. Frank II’s understanding of girls’ bb vs boys’ bb: After a win, guys give high fives and head for “The Bucket”. Girls hug and grab each other’s asses before heading to a naked pillowfight.

    Comment by Gil'sBarber — March 14, 2008 @ 11:23 am

  12. Clearly the girls celebrate their victories with a good old fashioned folk dance. Get your minds out of the gutter.

    Comment by AirForbes — March 14, 2008 @ 11:47 am

  13. I don’t know how I’m not supposed the be in panel 2’s gutter when the girls team have ripped off the jerseys (a la Brittney Chastain) to reveal they’re wearing Milford High-issued sports bras.

  14. A close look at panel 3 shows that the black car is Blocking the Public Sidewalk.

Or Seja was too stupid to tell her aunt: there’s no problem, you can quit observing.

    Comment by dale — March 14, 2008 @ 12:10 pm

  15. I said it yesterthread, and I’ll say it today: Margo and Tommy are enjoying a double-ended vibrator. That’s not dirty, it’s freakin’ sublime!

    Comment by sourbelly — March 14, 2008 @ 12:16 pm

  16. “Lisa Wyche is rusty, but she still 6-foot-2” sounds like the first line of a country song. I gotta go write the rest of the verse!

    Comment by jules — March 14, 2008 @ 12:43 pm

  17. SHE’S still 6-foot-2, I mean. Nothin’ like checking my work before turning it in!

    Comment by jules — March 14, 2008 @ 12:44 pm

  18. I’m not at all convinced she is 6’2″ anymore. She does have some big feet, though…

    Comment by Striker — March 14, 2008 @ 12:56 pm

  19. Well, at least Frank II can draw boobage. I mean, look at the rack on Seja’s aunt!

I agree with Regina. She couldn’t get some from huge handed Curlyhorse and now wants to spoil the fun for the Stasi goons. Bitch.

    Comment by julienne — March 14, 2008 @ 4:26 pm

  20. LMAO julienne!

Lisa/Tommie is definitely not 6-2 any longer, but she does have some big-ass hands and feet.

And asking Seja’s nosy aunt to “quit observing” would be like asking Mary Worth to quit platituding — ain’t gonna happen.

    Comment by Lurker #1557 — March 14, 2008 @ 4:48 pm

  21. Country song jules – first line: Lisa Wyche is rusty, but she’s still 6 foot two; her Nikes might be dusty, but she can still out-shoot you!

(insert sad line re: trains, etc. here)

    Comment by Lurker #1557 — March 14, 2008 @ 4:58 pm

  22. panel 2 actually makes me want to see a gil thorp movie.

    Comment by lester — March 14, 2008 @ 7:26 pm

  23. Wow a Gil Thorp Movie! For some reason I see Mel Gibson playing da man.

And Kaz?, I see Tom Cruise,,, why not?

    Comment by Lurker #1557 — March 14, 2008 @ 7:52 pm

  24. I’m still trying to catch my breath over panel 2. But as for Kaz in the movie? Two words – Schwarzen Egger.

    Comment by Sgt Saunders — March 16, 2008 @ 2:30 am

  25. Dolph Lundgren.

    Comment by Striker — March 16, 2008 @ 9:26 am

  26. OK – Denzel Washington as Clambake?

    Comment by Sgt Saunders — March 16, 2008 @ 4:57 pm

  27. Gotta have Swayze playing Gil (while there’s still time.)

    Comment by Striker — March 16, 2008 @ 6:41 pm

  28. Jason, in P1, I’ve seen intramural uniforms with more class and chutzpah than Milford’s opponent. Then again, that may be who Milford is PLAYING. I know some of the teams the Mudlarks play are stooges and are guaranteed wins just to keep the readership readin’ until the plot gets interesting but, ahhhhhhhh, who’s the next exhibition team Milford plays?
