Explosion in Gil Thorp! And not some stupid mailbox this time, but a friggin’ car explosion! How sweet is this? I suppose eventually we’ll have to deal with the aftermath comics of Stormy and Sean being portrayed as local heroes and everyone who hates them having to hang themselves in shame, but for now let’s just enjoy the moment, shall we?
The one thing that’s unclear to me…Is that Stormy or Sean in panel 3? At first I thought it was Sean, but maybe it’s Stormy, and Sean hads just been blown to smithereens. Unfortunately that seems kinda unlikely, doesn’t it?
The only way this could have ben cooler is if Gil’s head had exploded. Hmmmm, what would that look like?
Yeah, wow. That’s the stuff right there.
I think the identity of the figure in panel #3 is deliberately obscured. I’m on pins and needles, I tells ya!

The GT artist guessing game, huh? My guess is that it’s Stormy that’s hunkered down in panel 3. That means that Sean will be badly injured in the blast, losing out on his chance to go to the naval academy. If only those other boys didn’t tear down his campaign poster, none of this would have happened! Oh the misery.
It looks like the artist has been OD’ing on old Marvel comics in the last few days. The drawings have (dare I say it) …drama, or something approaching it anyway.

Unless the unconscious guy on the ground was rigged to explode, it’d have to be the car that blew up in panel 3 (putting Sean in deadly peril: stay tuned on Monday). Not that the artist helps by depicting an apparently dark-haired Stormy who’s facing toward the car in panel 2 and away from the car in panel 3. Picky, picky.
Jason: Great exploding Gil head! “You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry…”

Strange, since it was Stormy who was accepted.

Monday 10/16: Aww, Sean survived the fiery inferno. I guess this will lead to the discrediting of Eddie and Jason, and maybe even a write-in victory for Sean in that crucial student government vice-presidential race. (The victim Sean saved may even turn out to be Eddie! Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think?) Three artistic notes:
1. Sean is looking more and more like Gil Thorp every day. It’s getting downright scary.
2. Someone should tell Sean that if he’s going to breast-feed an accident victim, he should open up his coat and shirt.
3. Is it raining cats and dogs, or is this the artist’s clumsy attempt to portray the dark of night? If it’s raining, then (a) that car fire is certainly not being affected, and (b) Sean uses even more hair spray than Gil himself.

Gil’s exploding head might just be the funniest visual I’ve ever seen. Bravo!

Jason, there needs to be a Football Outsiders Exploding Gil Thorp Head Memorial Award, awarded in a little strip with the obvious conclusion, for the stupidest/most insane non-football act by a player or coach or the most ridiculous football related statement by a player, coach or media member. Example – Panel 1: Koren – “If I drive fast enough, I can go back in time and NOT get drunk and come in late!” Panel 2: Cop car – “Wheeooo! Wheeooo!” panel 3: Gil – Kaboom!
